Leica M-A (Typ 127) Rangefinder Camera (Black)

Focusing on the founding principles of photography, the Leica M-A (Typ 127) is a 35mm film rangefinder camera characterized by its simplicity and unobtrusiveness. As a completely mechanical camera, no battery is required for operation and the only exposure control offered is a choice of shutter speed, up to 1/1000 sec. A large, bright 0.72x-magnification viewfinder pairs with a precise rangefinder mechanism to enable comparative manual focusing control with M-mount lenses, along with parallax-corrected compositional framing. The body features black-colored chromed brass top and bottom covers, as well as an all-metal body design, to offer both durability as well as an aesthetic, minimal appearance. Designed for intuitiveness and efficient operability, the precision afforded by the M-A serves to complement a straight-forward working method.

Classic 35mm film rangefinder features a large, bright 0.72x-magnification viewfinder.
Completely mechanical operation requires no battery and permits working with just the basic aspects of photography: shutter speed, aperture, and film speed.
A rear ISO dial can be used to indicate the speed of film in use.
The top shutter speed dial permits selection of speeds from 1/1000 sec. to 1 sec., with a bulb setting also available for long exposures. Flash sync is available at all speeds up to 1/50 sec.
The hot shoe incorporates a center contact for compatibility with a wide array of flashes.
Compatible with all M-mount lenses ranging in focal lengths from 16mm to 135mm.
Image field frame lines are automatically activated with each mounted lens, and offer an accurate, parallax-corrected reference for image composition. Alternatively, image field lines can be selected to pre-visualize the composition of other focal length lenses.

Leica Summicron-M 50mm f/2 Lens (Leica M)

A versatile all-around lens, the Summicron-M 50mm f/2 from Leica is a normal-length prime featuring a fast f/2 maximum aperture to benefit working in low-light as well as offering greater control over depth of field. A six elements, four groups optical design provides even brightness and sharpness across the image frame, and also helps to virtually eliminate distortion for clean, natural rendering. Beyond its optical performance, the lens is also compact for everyday use, its manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 2.3', and it has a built-in expandable lens hood to prevent lens flare and ghosting.

Versatile normal-length lens features a bright f/2 maximum aperture that benefits working in difficult lighting conditions as well as offers increased control over depth of field.
Six elements in four groups optical design promotes even edge-to-edge illumination and sharpness, as well as high contrast at all aperture positions.
Manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 2.3' away with a maximum reproduction ratio of 1:11.5.
Built-in extendable lens hood shades and protects the front element to reduce lens flare and ghosting. Additionally, the front of the lens is threaded to accept 39mm screw-in filters.

What’s the use of the iso dial at the back if there is no exposure reading from the camera?
Asked by: Arie
The the ISO indicator on the back of the Leica M-A (Typ 127) Rangefinder Camera (Silver) BH #LEMAS is just a reminder. So you set it according to the film you are using.

I have a Leica M-A 127 and have been shooting 400 speed film. NYC is a a dark city to photo with 400 speed film - Does Ilford still have 800 speed film any more or should i just open up the aperture to f4 or lower?
Asked by: David
If shooting black and white film in low light, the Ilford Delta 3200 Professional Black and White Negative Film (35mm Roll Film, 36 Exposures), BH # ILD320036 would be the next possible option. https://bhpho.to/3oQDg6t

Will this camera show brassing with wear?
Asked by: Eric
The black chrome finish M-A will not brass and will look new for a long time. Look up web images of beat up M5 bodies to see how the finish will look after heavy use.
