Great in theory, but...

I had high hopes that this camera bag would be the one - having great flexibility in arranging camera gear just how I wanted it and providing easy access from both sides and from the top. Unfortunately, the hold down straps that make it flexible don't really do the job. The hold down straps that keep your cameras in place have to be somewhat loose to get the camera in and out of the bag, but having them even just a little bit loose, means the camera flops around in side the bag. Yes, they do provide two small bumper pads - but these don't adequately protect your gear - especially when you set it up to access your cameras from the side of the bag (so the camera is pointed horizontally into the bag). Just think about how we use back packs - they are not carried gently, that would keep everything in side neatly in place... Having said all that, if your camera is small and light (mine is not) and your lenses all fit neatly in the provided lens pouches (mine did not), then this camera bag will probably work well for you. Overall, the bag is well made and is the perfect size (25L) for carrying two cameras with attached lenses and 1 or 2 other lenses, depending on lens size.

Well designed and executed. "I love it" is right.

While I have not had a lot of backpacks, the few I have had all suffer from one thing: designed for manufacturing efficiencies. While that might be the case with this backpack, it certainly appears to have been designed for photgraphers' needs first, both inside and out. I am still discovering all the ways I can utilize this bag, but from the outset, it is very different from the typical bags I have used in the past--huge improvement! Quality is top notch.

Yes, the Nikon NIKKOR Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S Lens (BH #NIZ40028) will fit into the Think Tank Photo Shape Shifter Backpack (Black, 37L). It will have to be secured in place using the 3 included Camera Hold-Down Straps.
