Gitzo GT2543L Mountaineer Series 2 Carbon Fiber Tripod (Long)

The GT2543L Mountaineer Series 2 Carbon Fiber Tripod (Long) from Gitzo features Carbon eXact tubing, which includes High Modulus carbon fiber in the lower leg sections, adding to their diameters and making the tripod more rigid and stronger than its predecessor. The GT2543L has a load capacity of 48.5 lb, extends to a maximum height of 70.5", and folds down to 24" for transport.

The center column on the tripod can be removed for Ground Level Set, which enables the tripod to reach its lowest height of 6.3". Its four-section legs are secured with twist locks that incorporate G-lock Ultra, which has an internal O-ring to prevent dust and particles from entering the leg system. The top spider has been redesigned to add rigidity, and large leg angle selectors give you more area to grip when readjusting leg angles. A ballast hook on the center column allows you to add weight to increase the tripod's stability.

Gitzo GH2750QR Series 2 Off Center Magnesium Ballhead

The Gitzo GH2750 Series 2 Off Center Magnesium Ballhead follows the same outer shell design and look of the G1275M, but has completely redesigned and re-engineered internal components and mechanisms. The weight has been reduced by 15-17%, and new Gitzo technologies have been introduced.

Exceptionally smooth rotation, positive locking, and rapid camera mounting are all features common to the Gitzo designed range of ballheads. The graduated base, with independent locking facilities permits perfect panoramic photography. The design of the panoramic base permits these ballheads to be used for table top or near ground level work with or without the use of a tripod. This is an offset ballhead, which makes it possible to point more than 90° down. Includes the standard size Gitzo quick release plate.

Can I flip the legs for travel?
Asked by: Svetlana
There's no need to flip the legs for travel. Simply remove the center-column assembly, (which includes the head,,the ground-level ring, and column), and assuming you have the matching Gitzo head mounted (GH-1382QD) you'll reduce the stated closed length by an additional 5". There's no need to disassemble the individual components of the column assembly. Just remove the hook, then slide the entire column assembly out. Love this tripod.

question

Is this tripod sturdy enough for a Nikon 600/4 with Wimberley WH-200 head?
Asked by: Anonymous
I suppose it would work under ideal circumstances, such as setting up on a level and firm surface such as a lawn or even in a blind where you can carefully set up. It might not have the torsional strength for irregular surfaces, such as a cobble beach where you're picking up and moving quickly with the lens on the tripod as you follow your subject. My opinion is speculative rather than being based on actually using the 600mm f4.
