An exceedingly fast portrait lens for Leica M-mount rangefinder cameras, the 7Artisans 75mm f/1.25 II mixes a unique focal length and bright design with upgraded handling, a lighter construction, and smoother bokeh compared to the first generation of this lens.
Mark II Improvements
- The most noticeable update for the second generation is the lighter design that shaves 3 oz of weight compared to the first gen; this new lens weighs 1.1 lb while the original version weighs 1.3 lb.
- Complementing the intended low-light use, the engraved markings on the lens barrel have been filled with luminous paint so it's easier to operate in dim conditions.
- The aperture ring is smoother to operate for easier iris switching.
- Bokeh quality has also been improved; a new 12-blade diaphragm yields smoother bokeh that compliments the ultra-fast design.
Portrait Prime
- Short-telephoto 75mm focal length offers a slightly compressed image quality that is well-suited to portraiture and close-up images, especially when used in conjunction with the shallow depth of field afforded by the bright maximum aperture.
- Extremely fast f/1.25 maximum aperture affords notable control over depth of field for selective focus shooting, and also benefits handheld shooting in difficult lighting conditions.
- Optical design includes on extra-low dispersion element and one high refractive index element; both of these specialized elements control various aberrations and contribute to a sharp, color-accurate image quality.
Physical Design and Manual Focus
- Relatively compact and lightweight design matches the slimmer design of M-mount rangefinder cameras as well as mirrorless cameras when adapted. The lens measures 2.6 x 3.1" and weighs 1.1 lb.
- One of the most visually apparent upgrades to version II of this lens; the engraved markings have been filled with fluorescent paint and now glow in the dark; matching this lens's intended usage.
- Manual focus design, with a minimum focusing distance of 2.6', is complemented by a clear depth of field scale for easy hyperfocal distance calculations.
- All-metal design is durable and reliable and the aperture ring has been upgraded for smoother operation and clearer markings between f/stops.
