Cranborne Audio MC4 Overview

The Brick Lane MC4 4-Channel Modal PWM Dynamics Processor from Cranborne Audio is an advanced analog pulse width modulation compressor designed to redefine dynamics control in professional audio production. Powered by its innovative Modal PWM Compression architecture, this module provides impressive flexibility by offering multiple distinct compression styles within a single unit. Each mode represents a unique compression approach, delivering a wide range of sonic characteristics tailored to various applications.

From gentle, Vari-Mu-inspired curves to rapid FET-like responsiveness, the MC4 adapts seamlessly to any creative need. Compression ratio, attack, release, and knee behaviors dynamically shift between modes, providing precise control over tonal and dynamic shaping. The versatile Stress control enhances each mode, offering options like subtle harmonic warmth, transient shaping, mix glue, and loudness optimization. The MC4 provides even further advanced features compared to its predecessor, the Brick Lane 500.

Modal Compression: The Sonic Transformation Engine
The Brick Lane MC4 introduces six distinct compression characters, each meticulously crafted to deliver unique sonic signatures:

  • Velvet: Vintage Vari-Mu-style musicality with tube-inspired harmonic compression. This compression style offers smooth, organic, dynamic control with vintage tonal warmth and character.
  • Float: Transparent opto-inspired dynamics with moderate transparency and gentle, wavelike compression ballistics.
  • Smash: FET-style transient dominance with aggressive dynamic reduction, explosive punch, and sonic impact.
  • Tame: Precision transient management with ultrafast, transparent control and surgical dynamic precision.
  • Glue: Gentle compression tailored for submixes and master buses.
  • Polish: Premium mastering-style limiting with Cranborne's Analog Lookahead technology for clean, fast response.
Versatile Operation
The MC4 can operate in a multitude of configurations. Whether in mono, stereo, mid/side, dual band (low and high), series, or de-essing, complete control of the stereo image is possible. For added flexibility, onboard inserts on the rear of the unit allow for advanced studio integration.
Intuitive Interface and Recallability
Equipped with a 5" full-color TFT screen and encoders with LED rings, the MC4 provides detailed visual feedback on all the dynamics processing and parameters, to ensure an intuitive experience. Onboard USB and network control along with the included DAW plug-in allow you to seamlessly retrieve your preferred settings, recall previous sessions, and control your Carnaby MC4 remotely.
