An Unconventional Digital Camera for Casual Snapshots

To say this isn’t a typical digital camera is an understatement. About the only thing this camera has in common with other digital cameras is a sensor. Everything else is different, including the fixed focus, fixed aperture, fixed shutter speed, and mechanical shutter cocking. The intent is to stay in the moment and create unique (non-iPhone) images through a digitized single use film camera interface. The accompanying app is effectively the camera control, as it manages film simulation choice and image “developing”. There are no other parameters that the photographer can control, and there is no screen for image review. If you’re looking for this experience, the camera is a 5 Star option. If not, it can be a 1 Star experience. My rating of 4 Star reflects the positive side of my experiences and its strengths as a casual image capture device. I found this camera to inspire a shoot first and hope for success attitude while burning (slowly) through the virtual film roll. No “chimping” does help one stay focused on the subject. Pros: -Size and construction encourages carrying it with you frequently. -Images look good for sharpness at Full Screen on a laptop. -“Classic” and “Gold” are surprisingly good for color reproduction. I haven’t evaluated other film simulations. -Eliminates distractions to help you concentrate on image capture. -Built in flash convenient and good at intermediate distances. Cons: -Flash too powerful to be used as a fill light. Also overpowering at close distances. -Sending images to the “Film Lab”, aka downloading to a phone, requires camera to be on the same WiFi network as the phone. -Support is effectively through the Help Desk, as there is no technical information, no manual and no instructions on the website beyond "Advance the film wheel". -DNG files aren’t compatible with Adobe Photoshop. Raw Therapee is the recommended program per Flashback for editing these DNG files. -DNG file download appears to require provided cable

Great, semi convenient camera

I say semi-convenient due to the process of waking up the camera if you have a quick shot to take. Though it is digital it has a dial that can be a little obnoxious. Obviously this is how disposable cameras work and so this is a novelty . I like the quick transfer to my phone and the filter options. (There’s only 4 but they’re good, including a black and white) All in all it’s a fun addition to my other cameras, just maybe a bit overpriced.
