iBasso DX270 R2R Ultra Overview

For audiophiles looking for a more natural take on mobile high-resolution sound, the DX270 R2R Ultra Digital Audio Player from iBasso is here to offer warmer, less processed audio through their reimagined R2R DAC. iBasso uses R2R ultra architecture and precision components such as the FPGA-Master 3.0 with four iBasso-developed digital filters, and a hybrid 8-channel, 20-bit R2R plus 4-bit String DAC. All of this is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC with five output options: 4.4mm balanced headphone, 4.4mm balanced line, 3.5mm single-ended phone, 3.5mm coaxial, and USB-C.

Reinvented R2R
iBasso has reconstructed typical a R2R implementation with a hybrid architecture of a 20-bit R2R and a 4-bit string DAC with 344 high-precision resistors. The combination is joined by an 8-channel discrete R2R and FPGA-Master 3.0 using iBasso-developed algorithms and a hardware resistor compensation network that offers 130 dB of dynamic range and a THD+N that's better than -97 dB. The components do away with zero-crossing distortion found in typical R2R in order to deliver near-perfect linearity, a wide soundstage, and delicate, natural sound.
FPGA-Master 3.0
Using 7.5 times the logic of the previous generation and dual femtosecond Accusilicon clocks, the FPGA-Master 3.0 is both an audio controller and real-time hardware calibration master. It optimizes THD+N and dynamic range by compensating for component errors, while letting you customize your sound with NOS mode and four digital filter options.
Ultra-Low Zero-Crossing Distortion
Typical of R2R DACs, zero-crossing distortion at near-zero signal levels can cause noise and muddy sound in low frequencies. iBasso achieves an ultra-low -120 dB zero-crossing distortion, subtle instrument harmonics, and nuanced vocals with the DX270 by using a fully differential architecture and precision calibration.
