Both the Kase Black Mist 1/4 III Screw-In Filter (82mm) and Kase 82mm Magnetic Black Magic 1/4 Filter with Magnetic Adapter Ring, B&H # KA82MBMF14, are diffusion filters that will soften details in the image. Where they differ is a black mist filter will cause halation and bloom in the highlights and reduce contrast more, whereas black magic filters have a more controlled bloom effect and retain more contrast and detail in the shadows. If you're looking for a more retro or dreamy look, a black mist filter would be more ideal, but if you just want subtle softening in the details while retaining much of the contrast, then a black magic filter may be better.
