The Magnetismus 2 Transient Shaper and VCA Compressor from Tegeler Audio was first conceived to process transient-rich signals such as drums, synthesizers, and acoustic guitars. It combines a modern, flexible VCA compressor with a downstream transient shaper, making it one of the more versatile offerings that the German company has introduced.
The transient shaper, much like a tape machine, is designed to round out the total sonic aesthetic, allowing the transients to gel in the mix. The three different Flux modes (Eisen, Kobalt, and Nickel) run signal through different transformers that use analog technology to mimic the saturation of tape, each named for the material of the tape it emulates. The additional transformer at the output stage adds a final influx of density, introducing that final punch that so many engineers and producers seek.
- Flux Mode changes the time window for processed transients slightly, causing the transient rounding to be adjusted, depending on the width of the transients
- Intensity knob can control how much transient shaping will change the original signal, enabling you to sculpt your envelope as finely as possible
- Using more extreme settings, the unit can be helpful in creative sound design, by crushing or destroying audio signals, such as with a drum smasher
- Since the VCA compressor can be used separately, the unit is suitable for processing sum signals, as a bus compressor or mastering compressor
- Wide range of adjustable timing
- LED gain reduction meter
- Illuminated VU meter for working point control
- Stepped potentiometers
- Bypass switch
- Internal power supply
