Based on the 500-Series hardware unit, the Heritage Audio 73 JR is a 73-style mic preamp plug-in that offers vintage warmth married with the digital versatility of modern software. Offering 30 to 80 dB of gain in 5 dB steps and a 20 to 220 Hz variable 12 dB per octave high-pass filter, this preamp is incredibly flexible and improves on the original hardware with a wet/dry knob for parallel processing.
Like the hardware unit, the 73 JR offers four buttons for further functionality: a switch for activating the high-pass filter, a -30 dB input pad for overly hot signals, a phase inversion function, and a LOZ button designed for enhancing low-impedance microphones. The plug-in is meticulously modeled on the original hardware unit, including its custom Carnhill transformer and class-A high-pass filter circuit. Run as many instances of the plug-in as you want to build your own vintage mixer. The 73 JR is available in VST3, AU, and AAX formats and supports macOS and Windows computers.
One such improvement is a blend knob, which lets you push the preamp to the limit and perform parallel gain staging within the plug-in. As a plug-in, you can also utilize 1, 2, 4, 24, 48, or as many instances as you need to handle your preferred channel and input count. This can allow you to, for example, create your own unique vintage mixer sound.
