Don’t waste your money!

Unfortunately, the idea of being able to use my PL glass with my Sony FX3 and FX6 while gaining autofocus and iris control seemed almost too good to be true. Unfortunately, in my experience, it was. The iris control system simply did not work reliably with my setup. Even more frustrating, the unit did not properly fit or integrate with my FX6 rig in a practical, production-ready way. The physical design is also a major problem. The display and controls are positioned so that once you have a top handle, accessories, or any normal amount of camera rigging installed, it becomes extremely difficult—if not impossible—to clearly see the unit’s settings. If you can’t easily read the display, configuring, calibrating, and troubleshooting the system becomes an exercise in frustration. That’s especially disappointing because the concept is fantastic. Being able to put professional PL cinema glass on an FX3 or FX6 and add electronic focus and iris functionality could be an incredibly useful solution for filmmakers. But a product like this has to work reliably in a real-world camera build, not just on paper or on a stripped-down body. For me, this feels like a first-generation product that simply isn’t ready for professional production. The potential is absolutely there, but the execution isn’t. My recommendation: run away from Gen 1 and wait for Gen 2—or wait for a better-engineered PL-to-E-mount autofocus/iris solution. I wanted this to work badly. It didn’t.
