Tamron 35-100mm f/2.8 Di Overview

All-In-One Zoom
Establishing itself as a go-to everyday zoom, the 35-100mm f/2.8 Di III VXD Lens from Tamron not only covers the most popular portrait focal lengths, but it effortlessly maintains a bright f/2.8 aperture for creating separation between your subject and its background. Designed for Sony E-mount cameras, this lens offers high-resolution and rich bokeh rendering, making it ideal for creating sharp, flattering portraits. It employs a quiet VXD linear motor to ensure quick and precise autofocusing.
High-Speed VXD Autofocus
Tamron utilizes a VXD linear autofocus motor to allow the 35-100mm f/2.8 to deliver rapid and ultraquiet focus performance that benefits both photo and video capturing.

Throughout the entire zoom range, focusing is very responsive because VXD uses electromagnetic motion, unlike traditional gear-driven systems.

Tamron Lens Utility lets users customize autofocus behavior, such as selecting between linear or nonlinear focus ring control.

Lightweight Design, Comfortable Handling
The 35-100mm f/2.8's impressive optical design won't slow you down. Weighing slightly more than 1 lb and measuring 4.7", this lens provides the zoom range and portability needed for travel photography. Its contoured profile makes it easier to grip and allows a more natural fit in your hand while capturing.
Optical Construction
The 35-100mm f/2.8 incorporates molded glass aspherical, XLD, and LD elements to optimize image quality and reduce aberrations. The comprehensive optical design features 15 elements in 13 groups.

A 9-blade diaphragm helps produce a smooth-edged bokeh in background highlights, which complements your portrait subjects and helps draw attention to your focal point.

Perfect and lightweight! Got rid of my 24-70 and Tamron 35-150. It’s my favorite gimbal lens and run and gun because of how small and compact it is too

I ordered both the 35-150 and 35-100 and needed to make a choice. For my use case, the 35-100 takes it! The size and weight ensures that I'll bring it out more often and the cost is an added benefit. I assigned a button on my camera to go ASPC mode and because I use an FX2 which is 33MP, ASPC mode only drops it to 14.7MP (more than the FX3 natively) meaning I get the 150mm that the 35-150 offers in a smaller and lighter package. An added benefit for me is that the rest of my kit is also in the 67mm filter world like this 35-100. Couldn't be happier!!

What would be the focal length equivalent be if used with a Sony a6700?
Asked by: David
All you have to do is multiply the focal length by 1.5 to get the cropped sensor equivalent. So in this case, it would roughly come to 52mm-150mm.

Would this lens be good for event photography?

Would this lens be good for event photography?
Asked by: Elizabeth
I believe this lens would be great for event photography given its constant 2.8 aperture, size and weight. The 35 - 150 is great but it's a heavy lens. I can see this being much more convenient in fast paced environments. For my style of shooting, 35 is wide enough.

How different is this when compared to their 28-75mm G2? What should one choose?
Asked by: Haocheng
Both the Tamron 35-100mm f/2.8 Di III VXD Lens (Nikon Z) and Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 Lens (Nikon Z) have the same aperture blades and quality. You should choose what focal works best for what you shoot the most.
