LG 27GM950B Reviews

Could and should be great.. but has issues

I was in the market for a new monitor to serve multiple purposes – productivity and gaming performance. I found this unicorn of a monitor that met those specs. 5K 27 inch mini LED display with good color accuracy and resolution for video editing via my MacBook Pro, as well as a 1 ms response time and HDMI 2.1 which is perfect for gaming. I ordered the monitor, even after reading a ton of negative reviews on LG's official product page. They release a firmware update that supposedly fixed. Some of the issues people were having with inconsistent, sharpness across the panel, etc. I updated the monitor as soon as I got it to the latest firmware. I did not notice any sharpness issues, however, I did notice that the panel seemed to get darker around the edges, especially the bottom edge. There was a good amount of edge fall off. Also when viewing a solid color/white/grey full screen, you can see some splotchiness as well as the edge fall off. See images below. I just spoke with B&H and they were super helpful in getting me a replacement out right away. I'm hoping that the second one I get is better. However, my hopes are not high given all of the negative feedback on this display. It's the first of its kind with these specs, and there are other monitor brands coming out with similar panel specs later this year, but are not released yet. One other issue that I noticed was the viewing angle does not seem great either. I'm hoping that I just have a faulty panel in the next one solves both of these issues.
