If you are a gamer, then this is a must-have headset; with all the customizations and setups, it takes the gaming audio experience to the next level. All settings are done in the JBL QuantumENGINE PC app, but you still have physical buttons that you can control basic stuff with, such as power, volume, active noise cancellation, chat audio, mute, and spatial sound. You can calibrate many things such as the sound, head tracking, and the equalizer (the equalizer has presets for MOBA, FPS, etc.); you can also adjust the RGB backlighting of the base and update the firmware of the headset. You will find pretty neat customization options in the app, including setting your own profile to keep saved settings such as mic volume, head tracking, and volume.
The headband. The headset has a hammock headband in the form of a mesh that evenly distributes weight across the head. The ear cups are made of memory foam covered with synthetic leather; they feel pretty comfortable and premium.
Communication. It comes with a 6mm microphone, and it is removable, which is amazing because there are times that I don’t need the mic there, like, for example, when I’m watching a movie or listening to music. The active noise cancellation does a very good job of keeping away the background noises from my ears, and in case you need to communicate with someone nearby, there is an option called "TalkThrough" with the press of a physical button that allows you to hear and communicate with a person near you while still lightly hearing the voices and sounds coming from the headset. Call quality is great too, no issues and no complaints; people can hear me loud and clear, and so can I.
Replaceable parts. I like how the headset has so many replaceable components, including the mic, batteries, cables, cushions, and hammock; almost everything is replaceable. Sometimes you break the mic, and you are forced to replace the whole headset; replaceable parts fix these types of issues, they are pretty convenient. I hate that over time, the battery of a rechargeable headset degrades to the point that it almost doesn't hold any charge at all, and it is difficult to find a place that replaces the internal battery, and if you find one, that’s pretty expensive. Well, with the JBL Quantum 950X, that’s not a problem anymore; it comes with two rechargeable batteries that last more than a day, and you can charge one of the batteries while the other one is in use. In that way, you will never run out of juice.
Swappable batteries and receiver. The JBL Quantum 950X has one of the coolest things I have seen in a headset: swappable batteries and a wireless base station that serves as a low-latency receiver and audio customization; you just attach the receiver to your PC or console to get the low-latency audio. It looks very cool on your desk or table because of the customizable RGB lights. Once your headphones run out of power, you simply remove the battery and insert the charged one from the base. The removal of the panel is easy, and the battery won’t fall down no matter how much you shake your head. According to the manual, the receiver has multi-platform compatibility across PC, console, and mobile via 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and wired connections. I tested it on my PC and my Nintendo Switch 2. It worked flawlessly. The only hiccup I experienced on PC was that I had to manually switch the audio from the headset to the monitor, and that’s because I have a home theater system also configured to my monitor and PC, so sometimes the gaming monitor doesn’t know where the output audio should be going unless you manually select it from the system tray in Windows.
Sound. It really sounds amazing. Listening to game audio or a movie where things happen around you or hearing the sounds changing as you turn your head is pretty impressive; it feels magical. The headphones use sensors to track your head movements and adjust the sound field in real time. If a loud sound such as an explosion occurs behind you while gaming and you turn your head to the right, the sound will move directly in front of you. There have been times that this feature makes me feel like I’m inside of the game or movie. If you like horror games, then get ready to get really scared. Listening to music is great too; the bass is pretty powerful, and the sounds are very crispy and clear.
Summary. The new JBL Quantum 950X offers an excellent build for every type of gamer and movie lover. The headphones are truly amazing, and I think they are revolutionary. The materials used in this headset feel premium and sturdy but still lightweight; you don’t get strained after long use. The replaceable parts solve many issues that other wireless headsets have, especially with the swappable batteries; you will be living long with a high-quality headset.
