Kopul MUTEMATE-85L Overview

The MuteMate-85L from Kopul is a mute/talk button that's compatible with both condenser and dynamic microphones. Inserting the switch between your microphone and your computer or mixer allows you to activate or mute your microphone as desired. Once pressed, this latching switch keeps your mic muted until it's pressed again, unlike having to hold down a momentary mute button.

The MuteMate-85L features 3-pin XLR connectors for mic input and signal output to a recorder, sound system, or audio workstation. The mute setting attenuates mic output by 85 dB, so under normal gain conditions, broadcast audiences, recording talent, and online conferences won't hear coughs or side conversations. Pressing the switch again activates the microphone for talkback in studio applications, meetings, presentations, and video chats. An indicator LED illuminates when phantom power is present.

Press to Talk / Press to Mute
The MuteMate-85L lets you switch your microphone on or off with one press of a button, unlike having to hold down a momentary mute button. Whether leading a Zoom meeting or addressing a conference, you may want to have a live microphone all the time. However, when you're recording talent or in a noisy environment while you're in an online conference, it's appropriate to mute your microphone until you have something to say.
Silent Switching
This switch assures you of silent muting and unmuting no matter what kind of mic you use. Listeners won't be interrupted with a pop when you change the mic's status.

Note: When changing from a condenser microphone to a dynamic microphone, push the switch on and off 10-15 times to dissipate any residual phantom power in order to prevent popping sounds.

On/Off Indicator Light
The LED indicator will light when phantom power is present. It's located right next to the button, so you can easily always see your mic's on/off status.
Dynamic and Condenser Microphones
This mute switch is compatible with both condenser and dynamic microphones, which makes it a great addition to your audio setup in a pro broadcast studio or for applications like home recording, podcasts, or interviews.
Compatible with Signal Boosters
The MuteMate-85L adds an on/off switch when you're using the most popular brands of low-gain dynamic and ribbon microphones. When you add an inline signal booster or an inline mic preamplifier, this switch is a great studio addition for recording and broadcast applications.
Signal Attenuation
The switch attenuates your microphone signal by 85 dB. When used in normal sensitivity and gain conditions between 30 and 60 dB, your microphone will be entirely muted when the MuteMate-85L is activated.
Rugged Metal Housing
The MuteMate-85L is made for repeated use and travel. The all-metal construction will stand up to bumps and dings, whether it's in a gear case or in your pocket. Its rugged chassis also supports being used as a foot switch.
Big Gold Button
Unlike the small talkback buttons on a console, the on/off switch is big and gold, so it's almost impossible to miss. For those times when you need to quickly swat at or stomp on the button, you'll be able to hit it, so you can quickly add or subtract what you're saying.
Mounting Options
Nonslip rubber feet will keep the switch from sliding, so it will stay put on a polished desk or floor. The housing also has mounting holes for more permanent installation on a podium, studio, or workstation.

WORKS EXACTLY AS ADVERTISED

Had been looking at the 85 for quite some time, but wanted a switch that would latch. When the 85L came out I decided to give them a try. I purchased two and I'm glad I waited. Our crew can kill the audio for whatever reason and it stays muted until the second button push. No oops. They work just as advertised EXCEPT for the RED LIGHT which doesn't come on or is at least too dim to be seen. I expected it to be bright, but I'm not worried as I can hear the crowd noise mute through my headset so know the mic is off. There is no noticeable click when you hit the switch, but then we are in very loud environments for our broadcasts. All in all these have been a real plus for us and the cost is, in my opinion, very reasonable for what you get. If you're a small broadcaster, streamer or on a tight budget and want a Kill Switch that works. The 85L is a perfect purchase for you.

The Kopul MuteMate 85L is a simple, no battery required XLR mute switch that works as advertised. It can be used with anything connected via XLR, whether it is a microphone or a line level audio source playing music or other audio. The large Mute/Talk button is easy to operate, and the indicator light shows the current status. The metal housing is all metal, and the rubber feet keep it from sliding around on a desk. You can also have it mounted somewhere as it has mounting holes for permanent installation on a podium, desktop, or workstation. A set of two wood screws are included in the package, which comes very well packaged, with a nice white high density foam protecting it during transportation. Overall, it's a simple and convenient solution for quickly muting a microphone wherever needed. This is also great for studio recording sessions to communicate with the musicians on the other side of the glass panel. Kopul actually makes two variations of this product! I also have the Kopul MuteMate-85 Momentary Microphone Mute/Talk Button. The main difference is that the momentary version requires you to keep the button pressed to stay muted (or in the alternate state), while the MuteMate-85L is latching, press once to mute and press again to talk. I prefer the 85L because I don't have to keep holding the button down. But if holding the button is something you want to have, again, you have two options! I also made a video showing both options side by side. Note that the video and any photos I included are only viewable on the B&H website when using a full desktop browser.
