From Manufacturer

Designed for videographers and content creators who require professional-quality audio, the Audio-Technica ATV-SG1 is a shotgun microphone that mounts directly onto your favorite DSLR and SLR camera and boasts incredible features, customizable settings, and headphone monitoring. The 14mm large-diaphragm capsule, paired with a highly directional 100mm acoustic tube, captures sound sources while blocking unwanted background noises. Furthermore, noise from movement and vibration is reduced thanks to the integrated shockmount, while a patented A-T noise-immunity technology gives excellent resistance to hum and RF noise—typically emitted from smartphones and other electronic devices.

The microphone has a 12-sided shoe mounting plate that can be rotated in 30° increments for flexible, horizontal positioning and precise orientation. Onboard controls for low-cut and gain allow you to tailor sound to your needs, while a safety track option splits the audio signal for creating a redundant, clip-free recording. The microphone can be recharged via an included USB-A to USB-C for up to 24 hours of use on a single charge. A windjammer is also included for reducing extreme wind noise while recording outside.

Redundant Safety Track
A redundant safety track option allows you to split the audio signal at a -6 dB reduced gain for ensuring a clip-free recording. Especially for unexpected spikes in level, this is a great option for clean recordings.
Multi-Mic Recording
An external input jack and accessory shoe are onboard for connecting and mounting lavalier microphones.
Onboard Monitoring
A headphone jack with volume adjustment enables real-time monitoring.

I tested the ATV-SG1mic with an external wireless Rode mic pluged in the side. The shotgun mic was 4 feet away from the subject while the lav was on the upper chest of the subject. They sounded extremely similar. This mic is versital and well made and sounds great.

Does this microphone automatically turn on and off when the camera is powered on or off?
Asked by: Eric
If the camera’s microphone input supports plug-in power, turning on the camera will automatically power on the microphone. Likewise, turning off the camera will automatically power off the SG1.
