My old pixma mg3 had a good 6 years life, finally died with a print head hardware error. This was a drop in upgrade. I almost got an Epson for its no ink-cartridge. I'm so glad I found Canon has the same tech, in similar narrow form factor. It has better UI, easy see ink storage, paper storage. Install was just like my old canon printer, even used the old plug. Just followed instructions on UI screen and registered it on canon app, and off to work. I never needed fax, adf and this doesn't have it. If you want that, get higher series model. Print quality is Canon, meaning excellent.

Can you connect simultaneously via wifi and ethernet, or wifi and usb?

The Canon MAXIFY GX1020 Wireless MegaTank All-in-One Color Printer can be connected simultaneously via Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or USB. However, you don't run those connections at the same time.

Is there a separate tray to load 4x6 photo paper or other media? Or do you have to remove the paper from the main tray and load

There is not a separate tray to load 4x6 photo paper on the Canon MAXIFY GX1020 Wireless MegaTank All-in-One Color Printer. You will load it into the same cassette, and the printer will pop the paper-size confirmation prompt after you reinsert it.
