Years ago (when I foolishly had some money to burn) I purchased some of the least expensive of the high-end audio products I found. After auditioning more than a dozen different brands I settled on speakers by Martin Logan and amplification by Mark Levinson. The one thing I spent relatively less on was the preamp from a subsidiary of Mark Levinson.
The audio from the system was awesome. When listening to either pop or classical the music usually gave a great audio stage. For example, a mass by Palestrina sounded like you could hear where the choir was standing on its risers, not just left and right but its presence front or back on the risers.
The preamp had some technical problems and after a while I got rid of it. I looked around and found few options at a cost I could afford. Then my world moved to digital audio, iPhones, AirPods... The speakers and the amp sat in silence for a long time.
When I had the time to seriously listen again after digitizing my collection, I looked around at pre-amps and anything that seemed to fit into my set-up was many thousands of dollars.
Eventually I purchased this Fosi Audio ZD3 Preamp. The sound stage was mostly gone and the audio range left something to be desired. (I have a recording that starts out with a solo pizzicato bass violin G -- the 49hz G below the lowest note on the cello. I clearly remember being able to hear that on my old set-up.)
OK. That's the bad news. The good news is that this device takes bluetooth input from any of my devices (phone, tablet, computer) and gives it life. The sounds of hard rock, solo folk guitar, string quartets, Renaissance ensembles, large orchestral pieces, and even opera are extremely satisfying.
The fact that this is under $200 just makes me question why I spent so much years ago on all of the high-end equipment. Still, I'm happy that this tiny piece of gear works with my XLR cables (and I tried with RCA plugs -- works fine). I'd forgotten how enjoyable it is to listen to music without things stuck in your ear.

Bought this piece specifically for the 5v output compared to my prior Bluetooth piece. WOW what a difference. Cleaner, louder, punchier sound. Would definitely recommend and I have. Perhaps the single best upgrade to my system.
