Cambium NSE 4000 Overview

Designed to provide firewall, unified threat management, and site-to-site VPN functionality, the Cambium Network Service Edge (NSE) 4000 helps to keep your small- to medium-sized business protected from intruders and malware.

The rack mountable NSE 4000 features eight 2.5 Gb/s speed RJ45 ports with two SFP+ ports for up to 10 Gb/s fiber links. The device designates one RJ45 port and one SFP+ slot for WAN connections by default, and you can configure up five WAN connections in total as needed. RJ45 ports 7 to 10 support up to 30W PoE+ with compatible devices. When configured, the NSE 4000 has an up to 10 Gb/s Layer 3 firewall throughput with support for up to 2500 devices. It can also handle up to 3.3 Gb/s through NAT, AVC, IPS, and ACL security protocols while supporting up to 200 site-to-site VPN tunnels. Use the cnMaestro cloud management platform to configure your devices and monitor traffic.

Basic security functions are available without a subscription. The premium Security Plus tier enables advanced features.

Unified Threat Management
  • With a single click, enable intrusion detection or intrusion prevention and let the IDS/IPS engine protect your network against threats.
  • Create advanced firewall Layer 3 and application-based rules to protect your network. Use geo-based IP filters to deny or allow traffic to/from specific countries.
  • Audit security vulnerabilities with always-on LAN vulnerability scans and get notified when critical ones are discovered.
  • Filter malware and undesired content with the DNS content filter. Select options to block from over 88 categories of domain names.
  • Create secure tunnels between multiple sites or connect securely to a central site with site-to-site VPN.

  • Set up WAN links to share traffic or configure them in an active-backup fashion.
  • Share traffic on both WAN links and specify the traffic share.
  • Tracks WAN link health and automatically fails over traffic to the performing link.
  • Prioritize business-critical applications and restrict bandwidth for non-critical apps.
  • Prioritize and allot reserved bandwidth for time-sensitive voice applications.
    • Auto VPN, Site-to-Site, and Remote Access VPN
  • Auto-VPN: Create secure tunnels between multiple sites or connect tens of remote sites to a central hub.
  • Enable remote workers to log in to your network securely from any device. NSE supports WireGuard, L2TP-IPSec, and IKEv2-EAP protocols for remote access VPN.
  • Turn on multi-factor authentication to enhance password-based authentication. Offers MFA via Google Authenticator.

  • Create separate networks for employees, guests, and IoT devices.
  • Enable traffic shaping and rate-limiting policies to cap internet bandwidth for guests.
  • Use the on-box RADIUS server to create user accounts and set up secure network authentication for all the users and devices on your network.
  • The NSE supports Dynamic DNS updates for WAN interfaces. Create easy-to-remember host names to expose on-premise services.
  • All databases are kept updated, including intrusion rules, vulnerability reports, device signatures, Geo-IP databases, and the malware site database.
