Originally created in 1956 as a compact version of the 3 RU EQP-1, the Pultec EQH-2 is a 2-band program EQ sporting 12AX7, 12AU7, and 6X4 tubes for the gain stages. The EQH-2 features 20 to 100 Hz shelf boosting or attenuation, 3 to 12 kHz peak boosting, and a fixed 10 kHz shelf attenuation.
Further controls include switches for EQ In and on/off for the entire unit. The amplifier delivers a flat 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response. I/O is via 3-pin XLR. The balanced Class-A output stage is the same as used in the MEQ-5. Each EQH-2 is made in the USA.
The EQH-2 has fixed bandwidth for the high-frequency peak boost and a fixed high-frequency attenuation at 10 kHz. The line amp is the same minimalist class-A output stage as used in the MEQ-5. Many engineers, among them well-known LA / Nashville engineer / producer Dave Cobb and Michael Dumas, believe it provides a more transparent sound than the EQP-1A / EQP-1A3.
