With a far-field, mid-field, and near-field active ribbon microphones, the AEA Ribbon Mics AEA N8, N13, and N22 Microphone Kit with Three Nuvo Shockmounts and Flight Case provides you with a complete high-fidelity recording package. Along with the included microphones are three shockmounts, three protective mic sleeves, and a flight case to safely carry each component. While each microphone is ribbon-based, the N8, N13, and N22 are phantom-powered via 48V.
It is designed to be positioned at an ideal distance of 12 inches or farther from the source of sound. This far-field design allows for a wide range of options when positioning the N8 to best capture an instrument within the context of a room.
From as far away as 20 feet away, the N8 retains the low-end frequencies of the sources it captures, and its open, natural tonality makes it perfect to record an entire orchestra or the full low-end of a drum kit from overhead.
If less proximity effect is desired when recording at close range, the near-field AEA N22 is an effective ribbon mic to complement the N8's far-field performance.
The extra output is a major advantage when recording quiet sources like vocals and soft acoustic guitars. The active circuitry also prevents noise, interference on long cable runs and when near operating near large lighting rigs.

At once open and natural, the N13 excels at medium-distance miking applications while demonstrating an impressive transient response. The N13 features a new motor design as well as a thinner, smaller ribbon (1.2 microns, rather than AEA's standard 1.8), making it their first non-big ribbon bidirectional mic.
Even when used up close, such as on horns or vocals, the N13 delivers exceptional clarity while also taking EQ extremely well. The N13's unobtrusive size and dark slate gray finish is ideal for live orchestral and TV work, where microphones need to be both inconspicuous and easy to position.
