Vienna Symphonic Library Synchron Duality Strings (Full Library)
Large Ambient String Ensemble and Small Dry Ensemble—Best of Both Worlds
A dream come true for arrangers and mixers, Vienna Symphonic Library Synchron Duality Strings (Full Library) comprises two string ensembles that were recorded at once, performing perfectly in tune with each other in separate rooms at Synchron Stage Vienna. The large ensemble played in the huge main hall, Stage A, delivering a full, more symphonic sound. The smaller, chamber-sized ensemble was recorded close-miked in the relatively dry and intimate Stage B, the perfect place to zoom in on those meticulously recorded articulations. Use these ensembles separately, or blend them together as you like to spice things up and add definition and immediacy to your arrangements.

Engineers employed ten separate phase-coherent microphone configurations with dark and bright mic setups, recorded simultaneously with every nuanced detail. Using the included Vienna Synchron Player, morph your mixes from intimate to glorious or anything inbetween. Boost the principal players of your sections to provide a more direct sound. This 242.3GB Full Library comprises more than 603,031 samples.

Note: Software requires an iLok Account and iLok License Manager for license activation on a physical iLok 2 / iLok 3 key or in an iLok Cloud Session (the iLok Cloud requires a constant internet connection).

Extensive Articulations—All Easily Accessible
  • All articulations were played senza sordino (without mutes) and include a wide variety of short notes, long notes, various legato variations (normal, agile, slurred, portamento), espressivo, with various attacks and note releases, plus pizzicato, col legno, tremolo variants, fast repetitions, trills, harmonics, glissandos, legato and détaché runs, and much more.
  • In addition to the included Synchron Player’s usual articulation switching capabilities, there’s a category of preconfigured patches that allows you to switch articulations using key velocity, e.g., between spiccato and staccato, between different attacks of détachés and long notes, between up-and-down movements of glissandos and runs, and more.

Flautando and Ponticello Articulations

  • Sul Ponticello refers to playing very close to the bridge, producing a much sharper sound with lots of overtones. This playing technique covers the entire dynamic spectrum (pp - ff).
  • With the Sordino and Colors collections installed, the Merged Presets combine all patches on one surface, making it easy to switch and access an overview of all available articulations.
Create Your Own Blend

Vienna Symphonic Library Synchron Duality Strings Ostinato Virtual Instrument Library (Full Library)

Create tension, drive momentum, and push the music forward with Vienna Symphonic Library Synchron Duality Strings Ostinato, a virtual instrument library for the Synchron Player that provides an enormous 39GB, 360,536-sample collection of repeating patterns and fluid motion. This library provides two ensembles: a large ensemble recorded on the cinematic Vienna Synchron Stage A and a smaller ensemble captured on the smaller, drier Stage B.

Numerous articulations are available, including up and downbow spiccato, short and long détaché, legatos, and sequences, which contain spiccato and detache sequences with up two to four tones. You also get several mic positions, including dark and light stereo mics (Stage B), mono close mic, mid-mic stereo, main/room mic with decca tree stereo, main/room mic with decca tree mono, and three immersive positions: main surround stereo, high stereo (3D), and high surround (3D). With the new Flow View, you can intuitively play with dynamically changing articulations, while Precision View provides the full range of Synchron Player features. Synchron Duality Strings Ostinato is for macOS and Windows computers. This library requires Synchron Player, which is available in AU, VST, VST3, and AAX plug-in form

Your Pattern, Your Tempo, Your Sound
Both ensembles—the large section in Stage A and the more focused group in Stage B—performed extensive ostinato passages together, perfectly in sync. From these recordings, individual notes were meticulously extracted and are now reassembled in real-time by the Vienna Synchron Player, delivering authentic transitions, natural variation, and a realism that feels truly performed rather than programmed.

And because you’re working with single notes rather than fixed patterns or locked tempos, every rhythm, tempo, and contour is entirely your own. With short notes, long notes, and expressive legatos at your disposal, you can even go far beyond ostinatos to create everything from driving rhythmic engines to lyrical string passages.

Articulations for Natural Motion
Every articulation in this library is optimized for ostinato performance. Using the articulation sequences in the Vienna Synchron Player, it’s easy to play different consecutive bowings, from simply alternating between up and down strokes, to more complex patterns that mix up- and down-bow spiccatos with détachés. The Synchron Player provides pre-configured sequences with various patterns, but of course you can easily create your own.

  • Spiccatos with up and down bows
  • Short and long détachés
  • Legatos
  • 8 variants of intervals and 8 variants of repititions for spiccatos and détachés
  • 5 variants of intervals and 5 variants of repititions for legatos
Two Ensembles, Infinite Colors
As with all Duality Strings collections, you can seamlessly blend the spacious, cinematic sound of the large ensemble in Stage A with the articulate, close-mic’d detail of the smaller ensemble in Stage B. Both groups were recorded simultaneously in their respective rooms at Vienna Synchron Stage, with the conductor in Stage A also directing the small ensemble via video monitors.

This unique setup allowed the musicians to hear each other across rooms and perform in perfect sync, aligning every aspect of their playing – volume, timbre, note length, and phrasing. Combined with numerous microphone positions, this approach gives you remarkable freedom to sculpt the precise character your ostinato needs: lush and wide, tight and driving, bright and cutting, warm and rounded, intimate and chamber-like, or bold and epic for powerful rhythmic engines. It’s an organic, highly flexible way to merge the resonance of a full ensemble with the immediacy of a smaller group – all inside one musical performance.
