Thypoch Ksana 21mm f/3.5 Reviews

Focus not calibrated correctly

Unfortunately just got around to testing that far focus at infinity is correct. My copy is pretty far out. This series I shot (wide open at f3.5 & 1/90s on tripod) starts at infinity and incrementally rotates the focus ring back towards the 5m mark, with the last pic in the series being at 5m. I have a support ticket in and hopefully can get this rectified. Disappointing that this is happening out of the box.

Solid at the price point

I have been using this for a few days now, so take my review with a grain of salt as this is more like a first impression. Context: I am using this lens on a Leica M10. Sharpness: it's sharp. Period. It has no right to be this good considering the price point. Distortion: well corrected. There are no Lightroom presets though, if you want that you need to stick with Voigtlaender alternatives at this price point. What's great about it: very light with its aluminum built and it's well built at that. It feels great. The soft stop at 0.7m focus is great. The aperture clicks very satisfyingly. I did not notice the opinionated coating to have an overwhelming effect on images, it's subtle in my opinion as a first impression. The sun stars are great. What's not so great (but by no means an issue): There is noticeable vignetting which does not go away completely when stopping down. It can be corrected in Lightroom manually. Not a real issue, just something to consider in your workflow. Strong side light produces ugly flaring in the corners. The lens would benefit from a hood - I got in touch with Thypoch and they confirmed there will be a hood available from them for the lens as an optional accessory in the future.
