More expensive than the third-party 40mm lenses that have appeared over the last couple of years, but worth the extra money. It’s compact, light, and solidly built, with weather sealing, excellent image quality and very pleasing out-of-focus rendering. Importantly, I haven’t seen any of the weird flaring or rendering quirks that the third party lenses tend to have. A worthy L-mount successor to the beloved Lumix 20mm f1.7 MFT!

A decent 40mm lens for L mount

This is a decent lens for Lumix S9. I bought it to replace my 35mm f2 from sigma which I found to be quite bulky and front heavy especially with S9. I am happy to say that 40mm f2 from Panasonic is perfect. The balance is great and it is significantly light weight compared to the sigma. However, it is worth mentioning that the image quality and the sharpness is not even close to sigma. It is still a decent lens don't get me wrong and I am still keeping it. It is great for travel but if you love the clinical sharpness straight out of camera, sigma 35mm f2 is still the best.
