The DLC 500 Series Vacuum Tube Inductor Equalizer from HAZELRIGG INDUSTRIES is based on the passive equalizer circuit in the Hazelrigg Industries VLC, previously deployed in D.W. Fearn's VT-5, with identical filter capacitors and the same hand-wound inductors found in the VLC, but with a slightly modified signal path. The input audio circuit comes from D.W. Fearn's VT-2, while the output uses a low THD / high-gain solid state amp. Transformers are used independently on input and output stages, and the front panel provides Low-Cut and High-Cut, and Low-Boost and High-Boost switches, a bypass switch, and four separate parameter knobs.
In Action
- Control knobs will either boost or cut audio in the frequencies set by the switches on the right
- Flat (no equalization) is set with the knob fully counterclockwise
- Each boost and cut knob has a corresponding frequency selection: high or low
- Boosting and cutting simultaneously can create complex equalization curves
- Turn up all knobs except the bass boost, switch frequencies to the desired settings, then bring the bass boost up until the sound is balanced
