I saw a couple of people mention the camera doesn't work well unless really close to the WIFI router. We intended to put it at least 15'-20' from the house. Will it work?
If your router's Wi-Fi signal is sufficiently strong and stable at the intended installation location, the camera should work well. However, if you plan to install it far from your main home, we highly recommend checking first whether your router's Wi-Fi signal is strong enough at the desired location.

Technically, the TP-Link Tapo C120 4MP Wi-Fi Outdoor Camera with Night Vision & Spotlights (B&H # TPTAPOC120) will only need an internet connection for the initial set-up. Please keep in mind that you would not be able to manage or view the camera without 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connectivity or remotely view or manage it without the internet—the Tapo app for iOS or Android will need an internet connection.
