The Momentum 5 Adapt Around-Ear Bluetooth Wireless Headphones from Sennheiser are the latest in Sennheiser's long line of quality audio products, that not only sound great, but employ the latest technologies to improve your listening experience and tailor the headphones to your needs.

A total of eight individual microphones make up the ANC system, which cancels midrange noise three times better than previous models. You can opt to fully immerse in your music, or turn on Natural Transparency mode to pay attention to your surroundings while you listen. AAC and aptX Adaptive audio codecs are used with Bluetooth wireless technology for the optimal listening and connection experience. The 42mm dynamic driver was inspired by the HD600 headphones, and the long runtime of up to 57 hours (with ANC on) minimize the need to interrupt your listening to charge.

Sounds great but only when peered with BTD 700

My use case scenario is listening to high-quality music (FLAC or MP3@320Kbps) from my phone. Unfortunately, iPhone's Bluetooth stack doesn't support lossless codecs. So I had to purchase BTD 700 adapter and pair it with Momentum 5 headphones to pass the music from my phone without degradation. Before switching to BTD 700, I adjusted headphones equalizer settings to minimize bass bleeding into low-mids and compensate for the drop in the frequency response curve in upper-mids. I also set the headphones to use aptX Lossless codec with 16 Hz (CD quality) sound. (Note: do not keep Momentum 5 paired directly with iPhone after adjustments, or it will use this pairing with AAC codec with subpar quality and strong compression instead of using BTD 700). After doing all that, I see how codec light indicator on BTD 700 switches to purple (meaning aptX) after I start playback. The resulting sound is amazing, with great dynamic range and very little sound bleeding - noticeably much better that over direct Bluetooth connection. It would be good if Sennheiser - or B&H - start offering Momentum V headphones already packaged with BTD 700, the same how they already sell their flagship HDB630 model. Noise cancellation with these phones is good - better than with previous models but still not quite as good as with Bose or even Sony. But I didn't purchase them for noise cancellation, so nothing to comment on here. Verdict: great phones for budget constrained audiophiles. I still take 1 star out for the need to adjust equalizer and settings for better sound experience, and for the lack of BTD 700 adapter.

Not a day without them

After much deliberation and watching countless reviews, I decided to commit to buying these headphones and have not regretted it one bit. They completely live up to the hype in every way. They are very comfortable and I wear them for 8 hours a day minimum. The battery lasts an entire week without needing a charge. The ANC completely drowns out the world, and inversely, the transparency mode offers super clear sound. I leave it on this mode while at work so I can easily pause my content when a coworker comes in, and I don't need to take them off to speak with them, in fact I hear better with them on because the microphones amplify everything. As far as the sound goes, I have not owned a higher quality set of headphones/earbuds. I usually stick to sub $200 headphones but decided to treat myself with these. If you are on the fence, I highly recommend them. I see these lasting a very long time, but I would buy them again in a heartbeat if I had to.

The Sennheiser Momentum 5 Adapt Around-Ear Bluetooth Wireless Headphones (Black), B&H # SEMOMENT5BLK, does not have a USB dongle, however you can connect directly with an 3.5mm cable that is included.
