ILIO NAADA GAOHU Overview

Providing the lead melodic voice of Cantonese opera and Guangdong music, ILIO Naada Gaohu is a virtual instrument for the GeoShred Studio platform that offers smooth, real-time glide and ornamental control via GeoShred Studio's multi-row continuous pitch surface. With advanced AccelMatrix Naada physical modeling, each note is generated as a continuous acoustic event.

By pressing into the grid you can shape bow intensity, while sliding across laterally shapes ornamental figures. You can also engage in fully polyphonic playing, supporting harmonized lines, chordal voicings, and multivoice ensemble textures. Use GeoShred Studio's integrated FX rack for sweetening your performance with reverb, amp simulation, echo, and more. Naada Gaohu requires GeoShred Studio (sold separately) to function, which is available in AU, AU3, VST3, or standalone formats for macOS only.

High Huqin: Built to Project
Developed in 1920s Guangdong province, the gaohu was purpose built to cut through the dense texture of Cantonese opera orchestras. Its smaller resonating chamber and higher tuning (G and D, a fourth above the erhu) give it a bright, clear tone with more forward projection than its lower-pitched relatives. The model captures this penetrating quality and the specific timbral character that has made the gaohu the defining solo voice of Guangdong musical tradition for a century.

Unlike conventional sampled libraries, Naada instruments are built using the AccelMatrix physical-modeling engine, allowing real-time articulation, pitch movement, vibrato, breath response, slides, and nuanced performance gestures that respond naturally to touch and MPE control.

The playing surface uses an isomorphic layout tuned in perfect fourths, where pressure continuously shapes instrument parameters and lateral movement controls pitch with sub-semitone precision.

GeoShred Control connects an iPhone or iPad via USB to serve as a dedicated multitouch performance surface alongside GeoShred Studio. MPE-compatible hardware and wind or breath controllers also connect directly for hands-on expressive control.
