WD 8TB Red Plus 5640 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal NAS HDD

The 8TB Red Plus 5640 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal NAS HDD from WD is built to handle the workloads of RAID-optimized NAS systems with up to 8 drive bays, including home offices and power users, small to medium businesses, and consumer and commercial NAS systems. This 8TB drive operates using a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface, a 256MB cache, and a rotational speed of 5640 rpm, which all help to ensure uninterrupted data transfers with a rate of up to 215 MB/s. This drive also features high levels of reliability, with 600,000 load/unload cycles, < 1 in 1014 non-recoverable read errors per bits read, a workload rate of 180TB per year, dual-plane balance control technology, and a 1 million hours MTBF. WD's NASware helps increase system compatibility, allowing Red Pro drives to be more easily integrated with your existing network infrastructure, while noise and vibration protection is provided by Rotation Vibration (RV) sensors.

Tuned for NAS with NASware
Western Digital's exclusive NASware technology fine tunes drive parameters to match NAS system workloads, which helps increase performance and reliability.
Designed for Continuous Operation
Since your NAS system is always on, a reliable drive is essential. WD Red Plus hard drives are designed for systems that operate 24/7, giving users the confidence of knowing they can reliably access their data.
Tested for Dependable Compatibility
Western Digital partners with a wide range of NAS system vendors for extensive testing to ensure compatibility with most NAS enclosures.
Optimized for Lower TCO
WD Red Plus drives are engineered to use less power (versus previous models) and run cooler, which reduces operating costs and helps reduce heat in thermally challenged NAS boxes.
Powered for Strong Performance
Despite using less power, the drives have plenty of bandwidth to handle the mixed performance demands of multi-drive NAS systems.
Balanced for Increased Reliability
Hard drives that are not properly balanced may cause excessive vibration and noise in multi-drive systems, which could reduce hard drive life span and degrade the performance over time. WD's enhanced dual-plane balance control technology significantly improves balance and increases overall drive performance and reliability.
Limited 3-Year Warranty
Western Digital stands behind their NAS storage solutions with the assurance of a limited 3-year limited warranty and world-class support services for hassle-free data storage.
Desktop Drives vs. WD Red Pro
Compatibility
Unlike desktop drives, WD Red hard drives are specifically designed and tested for NAS and include NASware technology which fine tunes drive parameters to match NAS system workloads for optimum performance.
Reliability
Desktop drives aren't typically designed for the demands of an always-on NAS environment. WD Red hard drives are designed to perform under tough conditions encountered in high-intensity 24/7 multi-user NAS environments.
RAID Ready
WD Red hard drives are engineered with RAID error recovery control to help reduce failures within multi-bay NAS systems, unlike most desktop drives that are configured for generic use.
Noise and Vibration Protection
Designed to operate solo, desktop drives typically offer little or no protection from the noise and vibration present in a multi-drive system. WD Red hard drives include Rotation Vibration (RV) sensors that anticipate and proactively counteract disturbances caused by increased vibration often found in multi-bay NAS systems.

This is a great NAS. First, the pricepoint with the features make it one of the most valuable options for lowend NAS. It has 2 HDD slots but also 2 M.2 Slots. That really expands your storage options. The M.2 slots which I used 2 older 1tb Samsung SSDs in, allowed me to have some fast storage. I didnt use the caching options because I wanted to have some things dedicated to the SSDs. It has seemlessly worked with all my devices especially the sync and backup options, my PC, iphone, Tablets. I can select folders I want backed up and it just works. Also, you can even attach USB Storage drives and while they dont fully support all the features you can access them and even have them as a secondary removable backup for really sensitive data, or if you are moving data from home to work or vs versa. For more personal home things, you the included Entertainment app works great if you have lots of movies or TV shows saved. It seems that it might even be a port of Jellyfin, which you can also install, or plex. It can work completely without any cloud account, i still havent made a cloud account everything just works with local LAN no mandatory cloud accounts. Theres a lot of really great features. The built-in 2.5gbe ethernet port is also very attractive and i'm able to fully saturate it when doing lots of file transfers. I have a pretty large homelab so my situation is a bit different than most but it's still a nice feature at this price point. The device itself is all metal chasis, it feels very rugged. The Ram slot which there is only 1 of, has a dedicated door on the bottom to make it easy to upgrade. I did that from 8gb to a 16gb ddr5 sodimm. It will dynamically use the ram as a cache if its not being used otherwise. I put 2x 14tb Seagate EXOS hdd drives that I already had, plus the 2x 1tb samsung 970 pro m.2. Highly recommend.

The UGREEN NASync DXP2800 2-Bay NAS Enclosure, B&H # UG25242, is a network device; to access it, you would need to connect to it over Ethernet or via Wi-Fi once you connect the NAS to your router. The USB-C port can be used to connect devices like a card reader or external hard drive to the NAS; it would not work to connect to a computer.
