Fast T1.5 Aperture

But thats its greatest strength. I have to admit my first impression of the Dream 50 was a little surprising. Coming from very sharp modern lenses, including Sigma Art lenses and 7Artisans’ own Spectrum cine lenses, I initially expected the same kind of crisp, clinical rendering. Instead, the Dream 50 has a completely different personality.
The best way I can describe it is that this lens prioritizes character over absolute sharpness. Wide open at T1.5, images have a gentle, cinematic quality with beautiful color, pleasing contrast, and a softer rendering that reminds me more of vintage cinema glass than modern still photography lenses. If you’re expecting razor-sharp, high-microcontrast images at maximum aperture, this probably isn’t the lens you’re looking for. If, however, you’re looking for a lens that produces a more organic, less clinical image, the Dream 50 is worth a serious look.
One of the things that impressed me most was the color. Overall color rendition is rich and natural without appearing overly saturated, and the transition from sharp focus into the out-of-focus areas is smooth and very attractive. Looking back at some of my first test images, I realized the lens wasn’t simply “soft”—it was producing exactly the kind of gentle rendering that gives footage a more cinematic feel.
For my filmmaking, that’s exactly why I purchased this lens. My kit already includes exceptionally sharp modern lenses. I wanted one lens with a different visual signature for projects where mood and atmosphere are more important than maximum resolution. It's my 4th 7 Artisans Cinema lens, but the first in the dream series. And just as with all of the others, it's built like a tank. All metal and impressive in fit and finish. Even the box says quality with super nice packaging. Very likely to try the other in the series. Can't understand why there aren't any reviews at the time I am writing this one, but this is a solid lens with a particular character for an incredible price. If thats what you are after, you won't be disappointed.
