High Frame Rate SDI for Live Production
Elevate your live production capture with up to 8x high-speed rates in 1080p or 2x in UHD 4K, simultaneous live HFR output, cinematic image quality, and creative look control with the ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme Entry System from ARRI. This set comprises the ALEXA 35 Xtreme camera, High Frame Rate SDI, High-Speed, Base, Multicam, and Look licenses, LPS-1 FCA-1 Fiber Camera Adapter, FBS-1 Fiber Base Station, and a camera-to-FCA cable. Together, these components combine the ALEXA Xtreme's superior image quality and higher frame rates with essential live production components.
High Frame Rates and High Speed
- This ALEXA 35 Xtreme camera comes with two preinstalled speed licenses—the new High Frame Rate SDI license and the High-Speed license. The HFR license enables you to output up to 8x (480 fps) slow motion in 1080p and up to 2x (120 fps) slow motion in UHD 4K.
- The High-Speed license enables capture rates up to 660 fps, saving time and money by eliminating the need to carry a separate high-speed camera body. Its main processor provides more memory and faster speeds for capturing up to 330 fps with the full 17 stops of dynamic range and up to 480 fps (HFR) and 660 fps (high-speed) within 11 stops of dynamic range.
- This package also includes the Base, Multicam, and Look licenses.
Stunning High Speed with Phase Blur
Ideal for both live output and highlight reel features, this HFR SDI license uses phase blending to let you output a real-time live signal in 60p or 50p while simultaneously capturing high frames for instant replay using a slow-motion server. The multi-phase capture enables you to fine-tune your slow-motion output with selectable motion blur for a more cinematic look. For example, 240 fps capture provides both a standard program output of 60 fps via one 3G-SDI output and a 4-phase (4 x 60 fps) output via the second 3G-SDI port. You can control the 4-phase output using the LPS-1 web interface (update v.1.4.1), blending 2, 3, or 4 phases to produce the motion blur that best suits your needs or most closely matches other standard-speed cameras used in a multicamera production. Phase blending also lets you reduce the effective exposure time of your image.
Cinematic Look with HDR
The ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme system offers the uniquely cinematic ARRI look with its Super 35-sized 4K sensor, enabling the ongoing trend of shallow depth of field in live productions. It captures 17 stops of dynamic range, more than any other camera on the market, handling extreme lighting situations for the best results in both SDR and HDR.
Sup. 6.1 Update
The Sup. 6.1 update provides several new functions and improvements, including:
- PiP Tracking Zoom enables an operator to check a selected individual's focus in a PiP overlay while they are being tracked and while still being able to view the entire frame.
- SDI Tally overlay provides a tally indication for the SDI 1 output port.
- Extended genlock support.
- GPS metadata input via the serial port.
LPS-1 v.1.4.1
In addition to variable phase blending, the LPS-1 v.1.4.1 update includes:
- Tally Control via TSL 3.1 and 5.0 protocols.
- Test Pattern output and informative overlay.
- Enhanced genlock stability.
Seamless Integration with Live Multicamera Environments
The ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme system provides all the common live production shading controls to carry ARRI's tradition of stunningly beautiful images into the live realm. Going even further, the ALEXA 35 offers additional creative options that can quickly give any project a fresh look.
Choice of Creative Looks
The built-in ARRI Look Library provides 87 cinematic looks that control color in three intensities and can be activated at the push of a button, catering to a huge variety of shooting scenarios. In addition, several specially developed Multicam looks provide time-saving presets for typical live production scenarios such as studios, concerts, or ski racing.
Uncompressed, Fiber-Based 4K Video
The included Live Production System LPS-1 comprises the Fiber Camera Adapter and the Fiber Base Station. They can be connected either with a hybrid fiber cable that delivers both power and uncompressed 4K video over distances up to 1.2 miles or with a tactical fiber cable up to 6.2 miles in length. An extra fiber tunnel and Ethernet tunnel increase the system's flexibility with additional video, audio, or control signals.
Fiber Camera Adapter
The Fiber Camera Adapter FCA-1 mounts on the camera quickly and easily via a satisfyingly robust and self-aligning mechanical interface, creating a unified form that is easy to work with. This unit features a single FCA-to-Ethernet cable link, familiar connections, and intuitive controls.
Fiber Base Station
The included Fiber Base Station supports multiple simultaneous outputs like UHD 4K with 1080p or 1080i HD video. It incorporates a broadcast-quality down-converter, a redundant power supply, a 2-channel intercom, and pro audio inputs and outputs. It includes future-proof SMPTE 2110 IP capabilities and a SMPTE 2022-7 seamless protection switching redundant network for absolute reliability. The SMPTE 311 hybrid fiber cable with copper connections provides up to 400W of camera and accessory power and transmits uncompressed 4K video.
Upgradeable with Separately Available Licenses
- Upgrade this set with additional licenses when or if they're needed on a temporary or permanent basis.
- Temporary licenses are available for 7 or 30 days or for annual periods.
NOTE: These upgrades are available only on the ARRI License Shop site. Licenses include ARRIRAW, Open Gate/Anamorphic, and Pre-Record options. - The Premium license is a bundle consisting of the five separate options above.
NOTE: The Premium bundle is priced the same as the five individual upgrades, enabling you to add each license feature as you desire for greater affordability.
Codec Options
- ARRIRAW uses uncompressed and unencrypted raw Bayer data for the highest image quality and is a standard choice on the largest productions in the world. The images' sensitivity, white balance, and tint can be adjusted in post.
- ARRICORE captures a compressed RGB color image, offering superb image quality at significantly lower data rates while enabling the most Xtreme frame rates. Sensitivity, white balance, and tint can be adjusted in post.
- Apple ProRes creates a compressed YCbCr color image with excellent image quality at medium to low data rates, and it is the most universally accepted codec in the business. Sensitivity, white balance, and tint are baked into your image.
Full Creative Control
The ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme system may be used with a variety of established remote control panels. The recommended tool of choice is the separately available Skaarhoj RCP, which combines classic RCP handling with a powerful, fully customizable interface, making the most of the camera's exceptional image quality and offering additional creative possibilities.
Sensor Overdrive in Live Production
The Sensor Overdrive function provides multiple benefits for live production. Available only with ARRICORE capture, Sensor Overdrive provides:
- Greater dynamic range than standard slow-motion broadcast cameras.
- The highest maximum frame rate.
- Reduced sensor readout times.
- The same REVEAL color science as other ARRI cameras.
Reduced Power Consumption
The 24V ALEXA 35 Xtreme camera provides a 10% power savings over the ALEXA 35 and can be powered using the included ARRI B-mount battery adapter and separately available batteries. The versatile B-mount system can also power both 12 and 24V accessories, saving you the weight and space required when using two separate batteries. Third-party adapters from Anton/Bauer, Hawk-Woods, and CORE SWX can be used with compatible 26V batteries. The included PDM-1 Power Distribution Module can be used to add seven more accessory power ports.
Versatile Lens Choices
- This set comes with a Hirose PL mount, providing compatibility with a wide array of cine-style lenses.
- Additional lens mount adapters are available separately, offering access to a vast selection of existing modern and vintage lenses in spherical, anamorphic, Super 35, and large format options.
- The ALEXA 35 Xtreme is compatible with all common metadata standards and can stream metadata in real time using an optional plug-in.
User Interfaces
For fast setup and easy configuration, the ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme Multicam System is equipped with several carefully considered user interfaces, providing control when and where you need it. A jog wheel and display on both the Fiber Camera Adapter and the Fiber Base Station provide a status display and enable on-the-spot adjustments, saving time and hassle. The ARRI Web Remote panel enables full control of the camera, while a Multicam web interface provides full configuration of the Fiber Camera Adapter and Fiber Base Station, including signal routing, diagnostics, and software updates. The Skaarhoj Reactor web interface allows for full control, configuration, and updating of the separately available Skaarhoj RCP.
Dedicated Multicam Accessories
The ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme System is available in different sets that meet the varied needs of customers. Multicam extension sets are also available for ALEXA 35 owners who want to expand into the live production market. A critical part of these sets is the many bespoke accessories that ARRI has created to tailor the system to different styles of live, multicamera shooting. Separately available components include the Touchdown Baseplate system, the LPH-1 Live Production Handle, the LLA-1 Large Lens Adapter, the TLM-1 Tally Light Module, the MYS-1L Monitor Yoke Support, and a series of SAM Stabilizer Adapter Mounts.
