WD 8TB Red Plus 5640 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal NAS HDD

The 8TB Red Plus 5640 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal NAS HDD from WD is built to handle the workloads of RAID-optimized NAS systems with up to 8 drive bays, including home offices and power users, small to medium businesses, and consumer and commercial NAS systems. This 8TB drive operates using a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface, a 256MB cache, and a rotational speed of 5640 rpm, which all help to ensure uninterrupted data transfers with a rate of up to 215 MB/s. This drive also features high levels of reliability, with 600,000 load/unload cycles, < 1 in 1014 non-recoverable read errors per bits read, a workload rate of 180TB per year, dual-plane balance control technology, and a 1 million hours MTBF. WD's NASware helps increase system compatibility, allowing Red Pro drives to be more easily integrated with your existing network infrastructure, while noise and vibration protection is provided by Rotation Vibration (RV) sensors.

Tuned for NAS with NASware
Western Digital's exclusive NASware technology fine tunes drive parameters to match NAS system workloads, which helps increase performance and reliability.
Designed for Continuous Operation
Since your NAS system is always on, a reliable drive is essential. WD Red Plus hard drives are designed for systems that operate 24/7, giving users the confidence of knowing they can reliably access their data.
Tested for Dependable Compatibility
Western Digital partners with a wide range of NAS system vendors for extensive testing to ensure compatibility with most NAS enclosures.
Optimized for Lower TCO
WD Red Plus drives are engineered to use less power (versus previous models) and run cooler, which reduces operating costs and helps reduce heat in thermally challenged NAS boxes.
Powered for Strong Performance
Despite using less power, the drives have plenty of bandwidth to handle the mixed performance demands of multi-drive NAS systems.
Balanced for Increased Reliability
Hard drives that are not properly balanced may cause excessive vibration and noise in multi-drive systems, which could reduce hard drive life span and degrade the performance over time. WD's enhanced dual-plane balance control technology significantly improves balance and increases overall drive performance and reliability.
Limited 3-Year Warranty
Western Digital stands behind their NAS storage solutions with the assurance of a limited 3-year limited warranty and world-class support services for hassle-free data storage.
Desktop Drives vs. WD Red Pro
Compatibility
Unlike desktop drives, WD Red hard drives are specifically designed and tested for NAS and include NASware technology which fine tunes drive parameters to match NAS system workloads for optimum performance.
Reliability
Desktop drives aren't typically designed for the demands of an always-on NAS environment. WD Red hard drives are designed to perform under tough conditions encountered in high-intensity 24/7 multi-user NAS environments.
RAID Ready
WD Red hard drives are engineered with RAID error recovery control to help reduce failures within multi-bay NAS systems, unlike most desktop drives that are configured for generic use.
Noise and Vibration Protection
Designed to operate solo, desktop drives typically offer little or no protection from the noise and vibration present in a multi-drive system. WD Red hard drives include Rotation Vibration (RV) sensors that anticipate and proactively counteract disturbances caused by increased vibration often found in multi-bay NAS systems.

UGREEN DH2300 Reviews

Pretty Affordable and a Great Entry Point

The UGREEN NASync DH2300 has been a fantastic entry point into the world of NAS devices. I had been looking for a better solution for managing my growing collection of external hard drives, which were quickly running out of space. At the same time, I wanted to reduce my dependence on Dropbox and have more control over how my files were organized and stored. The DH2300 has been a great solution for both. Having my files stored on my own private network gives me complete control over my folder and file structure while still allowing me to share files with people outside my network, much like I would with Dropbox. I've been gradually moving my documents and other files over to the NAS, and once that process is complete, I plan to downgrade my Dropbox subscription. I still need Dropbox for a few things, but being able to reduce that monthly expense is a big plus. I was also fortunate enough to purchase the DH2300 while it was on sale. For the price, I felt it was an easy decision, especially as an affordable entry point into the NAS ecosystem. The biggest expense, in my experience, is going to be the hard drives themselves. I'm currently running a single 12TB drive and plan to add a second drive for redundancy. There are a couple of things worth mentioning. **First, this NAS isn't particularly quiet.** When it's powered on and working, you can definitely hear it. If you're looking for something that disappears into the background acoustically, keep that in mind. **Second, my upload speeds have been slower than I'd like.** I'm currently transferring everything over Wi-Fi rather than connecting directly to the NAS, so I'm sure that's contributing to the problem. I'm still figuring out the best way to optimize my setup and streamline the transfer process. Overall, though, I'm extremely happy with the DH2300. It's given me exactly what I was looking for: more storage, greater control over my files, and an alternative to relying entirely on cloud storage. As my storage needs continue to grow, I could see myself upgrading to a faster NAS with more drive bays in a year or two—but for now, the DH2300 has been an excellent place to start.

way too much hassle to be useful

I was excited to get my first NAS. Art, music and filmmaking take up a lot of digital space, and I find myself running out of storage at least once per yer, so I thought having a network system would make life so much simpler...being able to store and grab files with ease no matter what machine I am on. That is NOT what was delivered in this package. After three days of trying to sort out why I have transfer speeds that hover around 300kb/s...which I should have known AI customer service would be exactly zero help...I finally gave up and just went back to using my T7's. It may not be a network...but it actually works. Now I have a drive I will have to figure out how to use because this thing is basically a paperweight.
