The Sony ECM-W5T is a wireless microphone/transmitter for expanding an ECM-W5 system or recording audio independently. Paired with the ECM-W5 receiver, available separately, it supports wireless audio capture for Sony cameras with a compatible Multi Interface (MI) Shoe that includes a built-in digital audio interface. Its 64GB of onboard storage provides internal recording and backup, while clip and magnet attachment options, a locking lavalier input, and an upright handheld form factor accommodate interviews, reporting, and content creation.
High-Resolution Audio and Wireless Recording
Used with the ECM-W5 receiver, the transmitter supports audio capture at up to 96 kHz/24-bit or 48 kHz/32-bit float. Compatible Sony cameras can record 32-bit float audio directly within the video file, allowing quiet voices and sudden peaks to be adjusted in postproduction while simplifying file management and synchronization. Low-latency wireless transmission operates at distances up to approximately 1640' in line-of-sight conditions. Bluetooth hopping technology and an optimized wireless design help maintain stable connections and minimize dropouts, including in crowded radio environments. Add this transmitter to an ECM-W5 system to expand speaker coverage; the system supports up to four speakers recorded on separate in-camera tracks with compatible equipment.
64GB Internal Recording and Backup
Built-in 64GB storage allows the ECM-W5T to record independently without a receiver or camera, making it useful for standalone voice recording as well as onboard backup during wireless shoots. Recording start/stop control on the transmitter provides convenient operation.
Recorded files can be exported to a PC using a USB-C cable, either directly from the transmitter or through a compatible charging case. The transmitter also connects to compatible smartphones and PCs for additional recording applications.
Locking Lavalier Input and Flexible Mounting
A mono 3.5mm external microphone input accepts lavaliers such as the Sony ECM-L1, available separately. Its locking TRS connector helps prevent accidental cable disconnection during recording, while an external lavalier allows discreet placement close to the speaker’s mouth.
Clip and magnet attachment options provide flexible mounting on clothing or surfaces. The understated appearance and logo design suit situations where the microphone should be inconspicuous. Its upright shape also makes it easy to hold for handheld event reporting and live streaming.
Battery Life and Status Indicators
The transmitter provides up to seven hours of continuous operation on a full charge. In an ECM-W5 setup with the receiver powered by a compatible camera, recharging the transmitter through the charging case extends total use to up to 11 hours.
LED indicators display power, recording, and link status for quick checks from a distance. When configured with an ECM-W5 receiver and compatible camera, camera-linked power can also switch on the transmitter remotely.
