This useful accessory speeds accurate polar alignment by providing a means of visually aligning your German equatorial mount with Polaris and true north.

As a result, you can spend more time observing and less time setting up.  The finderscope has an easy to use crosshair reticle and is intended for use with the CG-5 mounts.

Polar Axis Finderscope is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible This model is a replacement to earlier models and makes the appearance of being more rugged by screwing into the mount instead of being centered by the three screws that two free hands could operate. It takes an allen wrench to modify the position of the crosshairs and one really needs two allen wrenches at once to make things accurate. Two hours of complete frustration led me to give up on this waste of money. Turning the allen wrench all the way out or in never brought any change whatsoever to the results. I lost the receipt and can't return the lousy product. I slid the polar axis finder from my older non-GOTO CG-5 mount and had things operating in 10 minutes.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Useful? --- maybe. Yes, it does allow you to point the mount accurately at the NCP. Accurately enough for visual observing with the non-GOTO CG-5 mount. For the computerized CG-5 AS GT, you can do without it for most purposes if you center the polar axis by just sighting through the hole and then use any star-alignment routine. If you decide to buy one, you will have to figure out how to remove the useless ring supplied with the mount - the instruction sheet is no help. You will also need to buy a metric hex key (1.5mm I think) so you can align the reticle to the optical axis. Summary: It does work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Celestron Polar Axis Finderscope Although this scope is advertised for for CG-4 & CG-5 telescope mounts, it's perfect for the Advanced VX mount also. Using the supplied alignment instructions, it was a very easy chore to align the scope with my Advanced VX mount.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fits Advanced VX, no illumination, no adjustment wrench This finderscope fits Advanced VX. That is the only advantage. It is not illuminated, making it very hard to use (you can shine some light through the top but of course it is not convenient). Also, the scope does not come with a hex wrench which is necessary for adjustment. I ended up buying one (set) of hex wrenches since it is metric. I would have returned it if it is not the only one fits Advanced VX.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrific Item I use this in my new AVX Mount, and it works perfect. It was a little hard to align with the axis of the mount. My old eyes had a hard time with the grub screws. I think they should upgrade to the type of screws used to lock in eyepieces, so you could get a hold on them, and it does not take much movement to adjust it. A little goes a long way. But, I am very satisfied with it and it works as it should. I just would like to see the upgrade to thumb screws. I would definitely buy this again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Several irritating design flaws The alignment screws for the reticle are three tiny socket screws, and the scope does NOT include a ten-cent hex wrench of the appropriate size. Luckily it's the same size used on many red dot sights, the cheapest of which includes the needed wrench, so I had one on hand I could use. No thanks to Celestron for that. Why are there three adjustment screws? Why aren't there two at right angles to each other, again like on any red dot sight? Then you could get the reticle aligned in one direction, then rotate it ninety degrees and align it in the other. With three screws every adjustment requires jiggering all three screws, involving much trial and error. It's stupid and needlessly frustrating. And why isn't the reticle centered at the factory to begin with? Then the user would have to adjust it only if something got out of whack for some reason. As designed, this polar axis finderscope is useful only if you have a mount built to accept it, Celestron CG-4 or 5 or equivalent. It is made to screw into the polar axis of those mounts. I don't have one of those mounts but with a bracket, it could be clamped to mounts of other make and design. I have a small German equatorial that has a flat at the end of the polar axis that a bracket can be clamped to. I have a Schmidt-Cassegrain with a polar wedge that I could clamp the scope to. Do they offer a bracket? No, I had to cobble my own out of a piece of aluminum angle from Lowes. Do they include a 1 x24 tpi jam nut to allow mounting the scope to a bracket? No, I had to cobble my own out of a piece of PVC pipe. (see photos) Celestron is missing out by making this a specialized piece of equipment that fits only a few mount designs, when it could be a universal polar alignment scope. All that said, once collimated and mounted I was able to use it on my scopes to effectively polar align them. But Celestron didn't make it easy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works with VX mount Built well enough and easy install with the VX mount. Focuses easily also. Nice that the end cap on the mount can be screwed back on with the finder in place so you don't have to remove it once installed. Too bad it doesn't have internal illumination or I'd give it five stars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Do the job Do the job. Make polaris easier to spot. Some folks said the polarscope does not help to accurately align your mount with NCP when you have computerized mount function to do polar align. I use this to roughly align my mount to the North star during the initial scope set up.
