The Meade Instruments Series 4000 MA 12mm Wireless Illuminated Reticle Eyepiece is ideal for use with an off-axis guider to more accurately detect and correct tracking errors during long-exposure astrophotography sessions.
It is outfitted with an illuminated double crosshair reticle that presents a clearly-defined center aiming box that allows users to center a guide star and closely monitor its location for drift. The reticle is illuminated by an integrated red LED that is easy to see while preserving night-adjusted vision, with a rheostat to set the appropriate brightness for the ambient light or the user's preference. Unlike wired models that suffered from cord-wrap and snagging, this eyepiece is a standalone unit that runs on two included LR44 batteries to power the LED. With a 12mm focal length that produces moderate magnifications on most OTAs and anti-reflection fully coated optics to improve the view, the eyepiece also features a 3-element lens design, a comfortable 16mm eye relief, and a fold-down rubber eyecup for easy use with or without eyewear.
