Auralex U-Boat Floor Floater

The U-Boat Floor Floater from Auralex is a U-shaped channel designed for supporting framing members to isolate and decouple them from their surrounding structures. Made of a specially formulated rubber compound, and six-notched grooves, the floater helps a room deliver improved transmission loss (isolation) and low frequency definition. U-boats can be stapled or nailed to one side of a joist to make installation easier, and Auralex recommends a spacing of 16" for most situations.
