Wimberley P-50 overview

  • 1Description

Wimberley's quick release plates for lenses are made of silky-smooth anodized aluminum. They fit all the Arca-type quick release adapters, made by many different companies such as Arca-Swiss, Foba, Graf/Studioball, Gitzo, NPC and of course Wimberley. The plate has drilled holes to accept flash brackets from Wimberley, Kirk & Really Right Stuff.

Note: The following lenses have 3/8" threads, and require a "reducing bushing" (#ST651) to fit the plate:
Canon 400mm f/2

Canon 400mm f/2.8 IS

Canon 600mm f/4 IS

Dual Safety Stops
The safety stops at the front & back of the Wimberley P50 plate prohibit your lens from accidentally slipping out of the quick release adapter(easily removed with supplied hex wrench if desired).
Double-Dovetail Cross-Section
The Wimberley double-dovetail design allows attachment of their Shape Shifter flash bracket system to the upper or lower surface of the P50 plate.
Works with All Common Flash Brackets
Drilled holes accept flash arms from Kirk & Really Right Stuff
Combine with two Module 1 Quick Release Arms(B&H item code "WIM1") for a brilliant support base for using your long lens atop a beanbag

    Wimberley P-50 reviews

P50 Quick Release Plate is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 47.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from I'm not 100% convinced yet I bought this plate years ago for my Sigma 500mm f/4.5. It is a perfect fit, works well on the Sidekick, and I use it to this day. I ordered Wimberley's recommended plate for my new Sigma 150-600 Sport, and to my surprise found that it is exactly the same P50 plate when it arrived today. The Sport's foot is much smaller. I actually find SunwayFoto's replacement foot better (same price) - and certainly better than the Sigma replacement foot. I am experimenting using the Sport on a monopod rather than stuck in a Sidekick. It is marginally hand-holdable after all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wimberley #P50 QR Plate. This plate was purchased for use with my New Sigma 150-600mm Sport zoom lens on one of my Gimbel heads. I needed a long plate that would allow me to change (slide) the balance point of this rather large & heavy zoom lens when the barrel zoomed out to a longer length, and to it's maximum 600mm length. I called Wimberley and spoke with them first: because I really wanted a complete replacement foot designed for an Arca-Swiss mounting system. But they do not presently make a complete replacement foot. Nor does Really Right Stuff, or Kirk, or Custom Brackets: as far as I can find out. And this is the best plate for the intended purpose that they recommended. Like all Wimberley products; it's well made, and one of the best on the market.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect plate for a big lens I bought this plate for the New Sigma 150-600mm Sport Lens. Fits perfectly with 3 screws to hold the plate in place. Very sturdy - well made.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! Great Product I got this plate to go along with the Sigma Sport 150-600. It extends the tripod shoe enough to balance on the Wimberley gimbal. It works like a charm. The only slight irritation is that with the stops in place you have to loosen the clamp a little more to remove the lens from the tripod. Not a big deal though for the benefit of having the stops in place. Really well made, smooth finish and all screws and wrench included.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top Notch Plate for 600F/4 Its a plate. It comes with screws to screw onto the lens foot. Not much more to it other than being a quality product, that does a simple yet crucial job perfectly! Fits my Canon 600mm F/4L USM lens foot perfectly and secures it all to my Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works great! I use this plate to mate my 600mm f/4 IS to my Wimberley Head mark II. It has a great range of adjustment for and aft to compensate for various accessories like flash, teleconverters, etc. Its very well made and precisely machined. I opted for this plate rather than the replacement foot as I like to carry my lens by the foot and the replacement foot doesn't allow enough room for one's fingers between the foot and the lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wimberely P50 Plate Excellent plate for mounting the 'Canon EF600 Lens' with the Wimberley Gimbal Tripod Head II! Wimberley quality is second to none. Would highly recommend....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Long and Heavy Duty Used this plate on my EF 400 2.8 IS attached to a 1D Mark III and it handled the beast. A gimbal type head works great and allows for fluid motion and easy, quick access to the lens. This plate is long and allows for additional attachments (like a flash and a better beamer) or can be moved forward or backwards to accommodate for the lens.
