A must have for macro, along with a Gitzo GS5313GS Geared Center Column for Series 5 tripods. Solid construction and smooth operation. I do wish it was a true Systematic accessory, but it does somewhat fit on a Gitzo Series 3, so I sort of understand why Gitzo went in this direction.

This is a very robust and stable right angle adaptor for a Gitzo series 4 or 5. The base screw wright on the base plate and the base plate of the center post fits perfectly in the right angle circle. Great for sturdy and stable camera/lens holding over a table top for Macrophotography.

Does this clamp into the top of the stystematic 5 series top clamp, or does it need to be screwed onto a flat plate that in turn clamps into the tripod top? I hope that makes sense!

Is there a guide to mount / unmount from center column?
I have one and it eternally turns without unmounting.
Usually with products like this to unmount the system the pan function needs to be locked down. If the pan is not locked down, it may spin continuously when you try to unmount it.

What is the inner diameter of the ring?
I believe the measurement reported is the circumference of the ring rather than the diameter. The diameter is the measurement ACROSS the center of the circle, circumference is the measurement AROUND the circle. I would expect the diameter to be closer to 1.25" .

This product claims to work with series 4 Gitzo tripods. How does a series 4 center column actually fit into the ring on this, it is far to large. Does it require and additional accessory?
The Gitzo G541 is for Gitzo systematic tripods and not for their tripods that use a center column.

Does this fit a 30 year old Gitzo G500 tripod? It's the same model number in the older Karl Heitz catalogs.
Yes, in today's terms, the G500 would be considered a Series 5. And the size of the Series 5 collar has not changed.
