Occupying only a single rack-space, the SSL - Low Profile Sliding Rackshelf from Middle Atlantic is made of a black laminate material and supports components up to 35 lbs. The shelf can attaches to any rack with a telescopic rear support and uses nylon roller slides to reach its full extension.

This is well made as with all the MA stuff. I went with this instead of the locking one thinking it may be nice to use partially extended just enough to use the keyboard. But, though all the slide and mount hardware is nice, the platform is a wood laminate. I don't think it will hold up as well as the metal one on the locking model. Also, the wood platform is fairly thick. I don't have one for a side by side comparison, but I suspect the metal locking platform may be a little thinner, perhaps allowing it to slide into one RU with the slim Apple keyboard and mouse we have on it. With this one we had to leave a RU above it for the keyboard to clear when it slides in. Would go with with the locking platform model for a few extra bucks next time.
It is a great piece of gear made by a company that lives up to its guarantees.
