Heico Perma Wash Overview

Heico Perma Wash is a highly concentrated neutral liquid that not only saves a tremendous amount of time and wash water, but even more importantly provides archival permanence in both films and papers.

Perma Wash is available in 1 qt., 1 gal., and 5 gallon concentrates. A one quart bottle will make 11 gallons of working solution.

Perma Wash saves more than 90% of normal wash water requirements which is estimated that the operating cost is one cent per 8 x 10" sheet of film or paper processed.

Perma Wash is non-corrosive and is formaldehyde free.

Heico Perma Wash Reviews

Garbage cap

So the Permawash does the job, but the bottle has to be replaced after 10 uses or so because the cap breaks. I used up about 1/10th of a bottle and the cap broke off so I had to replace it. Aaaand it just happened. Again. Buy something else or a different container to keep it in. I didn't realize the cap broke until a few days later so now I can't just rebottle it but am forced to dump it. Cool.

I was so excited to get this product. I have been looking for a company who carries it and will ship to Alaska

Great for Archival Processing

I've used Perma Wash for more than 35 years to remove fixer from film and paper after processing. Negatives from the early 1980s show no signs of deterioration, which I credit largely to Perma Wash.

Clearing for platinum/palladium as well

Kodak Hypo-Clearing Agent was my standard for efficient washing for decades, but more recently I've been using Perma Wash instead. It clears my platinum/palladium prints as well as HCA, and is a lot more convenient to store and use. At 3 ounces per gallon, it goes a long way even when used as one shot.

Excellent for Archival Processing

I use non-hardening fixer to process black and white films and have used Perma Wash for many years to make sure that all traces of fixer have been removed. I have heard that Perma Wash was formulated to work with Heico's NH-5 Fixer, which seems logical. I use both chemicals.

An extra step but dramatically reduces rinse time. Makes gallons and gallons so very economical

question

How long does this last in storage?
Asked by: Ryan
I've used Perma Wash for longer than I can remember. To help the bottle last longer, I squeeze it a bit so there's less air inside and I screw the cap on tight. For film developing I keep my working solution stored in a tightly sealed bottle. I make enough so it fills the bottle almost to the top and thereby reduce the amount of air. Exposure to air is what shortens the shelf life -- especially when diluted. I keep a record of when I filled the bottle. And as a precaution, whether or not the solution has been used I dispose of it after about 2 weeks. I generally make 64 oz and use it for 12 rolls of 120. Keeping track of the amount of rolls is important -- so is washing between fixer and perma wash. Follow the directions on the bottle and you'll be fine. And because perma wash can leave a residue -- be sure to clean your bottles or trays before mixing a new batch. Lastly, whenever handling chemicals of any kind be sure to follow recommended safety procedures and proper disposal methods.

question

Can I use Heico Perma Wash in the selinium toner bath?
Asked by: Rick
Although we only use perma wash in processing film you can use perma wash in your toner bath to save time. We normally wash, dry and look at our prints before toning. William
