I thought this would work great, the flex seemed strong enough that it would stay in place. I went out with my macro lens to shoot handheld and screwed the flex arm into the tripod collar on the lens. Things worked pretty well until I tried to move the flash by bending the arm. The flex arm would start to unscrew from the tripod collar. The screw is not very long, I didn't have much faith in it to be screwing it in and out every time I wanted to use it. The next day I thought I'd try it on a flash bracket I had that I could leave it attached to, so I screwed it down and tightened it snug with a wrench. I tried moving the flash again and the flex arm would start to unscrew so I tried to tighten it a little more but it wouldn't tighten. The screw had become stripped. The photo of the product seems to show a brass screw, that is not what was on the one I received. A solid flex arm with a very cheap mounting screw. Very unfortunate this could be a five star item.

I purchase from B&H 4 years ago still an amazing indispensable tool Especially used for food &� product photography, To day also� LED's getting small & better� CRI's making a Joy working with 2 of them . The only problem ballhead was week and� I� procrastinate to get replacement

The Novoflex Flexible Arm with Small Ball Head Socket and Flash Shoe - 18" (45 cm) has a 1/4"-20 male threaded screw on the bottom of the flexible arm. It can be screwed into any standard 1/4"-20 female tripod socket. On the opposite end of the arm is a standard cold shoe that may be used with items that connect to the hot shoe on a camera, such as speedlight flashes, or microphones or monitors (or other accessories) which have a cold shoe on the base of the item.
