Manfrotto Sliding Support Arm Overview

This is a Manfrotto 231ARM Hand-Grip Sliding Support Arm replacement, or an auxiliary Sliding Support Arm designed to fit onto the Manfrotto 231 or 231CS (old #3381) Column Stand, or any column or pipe of 1-3/8" diameter.

Hand Grip action release allows your stud mounted light to slide, then lock into position by releasing the handle.

This is great to add a second support arm to your column stand. I like that the key that holds the stud in can be moved from one side to the other depending on your needs. The trigger is not the most ergonomic. It sits far from the column and has a rather strong spring to compress. It's probably for the best.

No, the Manfrotto 231ARM Hand-Grip Sliding Support Arm is not compatible for use with the Manfrotto Alu Master Air-Cushioned Stand (Black, 12'), B&H # MA1004BAC. The Manfrotto 231ARM Hand-Grip Sliding Support Arm is designed for use with the Manfrotto 231-series Column Stands.

According to the MFR, the Impact Sliding Arm Support with Hand Grip, B&H # IMME126, should be compatible for use with C-stands. While I have not received a reply from Manfrotto, it may be possible that the Manfrotto 231ARM Hand-Grip Sliding Support Arm, B&H # MA231ARM, may also work with C-stands.

How much weight is it rated for?

Hummm. The 231 does not have a weight rating on the manfrotto site. I am using them with Paul C Buff Einstein E-640 lights and modifiers up to 7 foot octodomes and the 231 is plenty strong for that.
