Hoya Skylight 1B HMC Filter Overview

Due to its light pink color, the Hoya Skylight 1B (HMC) Multi-Coated Glass Filter reduces the bluish cast of daylight to produce a pleasing, warm picture tone. Wise initial investments, Skylight filters help protect your lens from dust, moisture, and scratches that can lead to costly repairs.

The filter is multi-coated to minimize reflections on the filter surfaces, reducing flare and ghosting.

Can be left on at all times for protection
Skylight filters correction for Ultraviolet(UV) light that can register on film and videotape as a bluish cast and can obscure distant details
Used to reduce the bluish cast common with some electronic flash units

Great lens protection

Each and every one of my lenses have a Skylight filter to protect them, so I do not have to be changing the filter from one lens to another, and this Hoya is excellent, as it is strong and the glass is of excellent quality

Good Filter For The Price

I've always liked Hoya filters (used them for MANY years). This is another good quality filter. I'd buy it again. It mounts well on my lenses.

Good fit, does the job.

I bought this filter only to protect the viewing lens on a Mamiya TLR. I did not buy it for its optical performance (but it's fine in that area). Rather, I bought it because the outer diameter of the mounting ring is an exact match for that of the lens, and that means that the Mamiya lens lens cap, which fits over the outside of the of the lens barrel, will fit perfectly over the filter as well. The same cannot be said of some other filters. The only reason I rate this filter with four stars instead of five is the aluminum mounting ring, which does not glide on and off the lens as smoothly as the brass rings found on superlative quality filters like B+W. It's not a big deal if you're going to screw a filter on and leave it there, but if you change filters a lot, you'll appreciate the brass ring. For this reason, I use Hoya filters on my viewing lenses (which stay put) and B+W filters on my taking lenses (which get changed a lot).

I find I don't need to do as much editing on pictures taken when using this filter. I take mostly landscape and nature pictures. Plus it protects my lens.

A little warmth with your protection

I always use filters!, mainly for protection. When I shoot jpeg ( has no effect on raw files ), it adds a little warmth to your images.

Will this also work as a UV besides adding a pink tone?
Asked by: Zhenhuan H.
The Skylight filter was designed for use outdoors, under sunny skies, while the UV filter can be left on at all times.
