Hoya Skylight 1B HMC Filter Overview

Due to its light pink color, the Hoya Skylight 1B (HMC) Multi-Coated Glass Filter reduces the bluish cast of daylight to produce a pleasing, warmer picture tone. Wise initial investments, Skylight filters help protect your lens from dust, moisture, and scratches that can lead to costly repairs.

The filter is multi-coated to minimize reflection at the filter surfaces, reducing flare and ghosting.

Can be left on at all times for protection
Skylight filters provide correction for Ultraviolet(UV) light that can register on film and videotape as a bluish cast and can obscure distant details
Used to reduce the bluish cast common with some electronic flash units

Hoya Skylight 1B HMC Filter Reviews

Nice Skylight Filter

I haven't owned a skylight filter in many years so I'm trying this out again. I usually get B+W or Tiffen, but this was the right price at the time. It appears to have a nice color to it and had good feedback so I'm trying it out.

Does what it is supposed to do

Protects a lens costing much much more, with minimal image degradation. If you don't like the skylight effect, just adjust the white balance.

question

Will this also work as a UV besides adding a pink tone?
Asked by: Zhenhuan H.
The Skylight filter was designed for use outdoors, under sunny skies, while the UV filter can be left on at all times.
