Hoya A-52SKY-GB overview

  • 1Description

Due to its light pink color, the Hoya Skylight 1B (HMC) Multi-Coated Glass Filter(1B) reduces the bluish cast of daylight and produces a pleasing, warmer picture tone. Wise initial investments, Skylight filters help protect your lens from dust, moisture, and scratches that can lead to costly repairs.

The filter is multi-coated to minimize reflections on the filter surfaces, which reduces flare and ghosting.

Can be left on at all times for protection
Skylight filters provide additional benefits of correction for Ultraviolet(UV) light that can register on film and videotape as a bluish cast and can obscure distant details
Reduces the excessive bluishness that frequently occurs in outdoor color photography, especially in open shade under a clear blue sky; also keeps skin tones free of colored reflections from nearby objects such as the shade of trees
Used to reduce the bluish cast common with some electronic flash units
The absorption peak is in the range that corresponds to the film's green spectrum to produce outstanding outdoor shots with superb color balance and clarity under all conditions

Hoya A-52SKY-GB reviews

52mm Skylight 1B (HMC) Multi-Coated Glass Filter is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding quality and value Coming from the 'don't put bad glass in front of good glass' school, I used to use UV filters to protect front elements from damage only when photographing in more 'wild' situations, ranging from rock climbing to grubby toddler fingers grabbing for the camera. A lens hood and a filter do great in protecting the lens, but the concern of increased flare and decreased contrast from reflected light from the filter means you have to be picky about which protective filter you choose. I've done side-by-side images with the filter on and off, trying to tease out negative impacts of using this filter - I can usually get flares or color shifts using less-expensive, non-coated filters, but with this one, I get none of these things, meaning I can actually leave the filter on all the time. Nice feeling of security for a good price, and my images are just as good as when I went filterless.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It does the job but do YOU really need i The filter does exactly what a skylight filter is supposed to do and the product is not flawed in any way. That being said the only reason you would need this filter is if and only if you are shooting with film. If you don't shoot with film thats what the white balance is for on your digital camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well made but unnecessary for DSLR Only really useful with film. Auto white balance in a DSLR will undo the change in color. The filter is well made and does protect the lens but effect is essentially the same as clear glass for digital applications.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good price, gets the job done I use this basically for lens protection. It provides good skylight protection as well. My only reservation is that it (like many lower priced filters) does not come with a separate case for the filter, so finding them in your bag and interchanging them can become confusing. Obviously a good value though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from most important product this is a great thing to have if your big into photography you save money if you ever scratch it you'll definatly want to scratch your filter and not the lens its protects your lens and gives you better quality photos

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid product This filter is great for protecting your lenses. Ordered a new one as a replacement when it protected a lens from shattering. The filter died but the lens lived on. A great product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High quality, reasonable price Not too much to say other than its a high quality filter by a reputable maker. B&H price is great. I use it to protect my camera lens.
