I probably would not gamble an 8-pound, maybe expensive, camera to see if the strap holds. It probably would, but it may well be a recommendation from the manufacturer based on comfort of the user. For a heavy camera, a wider strap is likely to do a better job of weight distribution. If you choose a strap with the 3/8" fasteners, look online for a more secure method of attachment than the one in the stock photo.

The E-Z Comfort Strap is one that is recommended for your camera. It attaches with 3/8" webbing; as long as the connection points on the camera will accommodate the 3/8" webbing, you will not need anything else. If the connection points are smaller, you may want to attach small split rings to the camera.
