Novoflex's Chestpod is a great way to lend support when shooting with long lenses in scenarios where monopods and tripods would be impractical or prohibited.  It begins as a comfortable neckstrap, which articulates to a wide rubberized base that rests on your chest, usually just below your sternum.  Attached to this base is an arm that ends with a swiveling plate which has a 1/4"-20 screw for attaching the tripod collar of the lens.  Of course, with medium "fast" telephoto lenses such as an 85mm f/1.2 or f/1.4, 135mm f/2.0 or the like, you would attach the front of the Chestpod to the bottom of the camera.

In this way, the shooter achieves a stable triangle of vibration-reducing assistance for those longer teles.  Great for capturing sharp shots of scenes (such as popular tourist destinations) whose controllers have implemented anti-tripod rules in an attempt to sell their pictures.

The Chestpod can be used upon its own, or in conjunction with a quick release adapter to speed up the attachment and detachment of the Chestpod and whatever you're attaching to it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for DSLR shooting! I bought this to use in conjunction with a flash bracket handle/grip as a minimal handheld rig for shooting video on my GH1. I love the solid construction, the simplicity of design, and how easy it is to change from shoulder stock to vertical waist/hip support. Its small size makes it light weight and easy to pack. This is probably one of the most overlooked items for handheld stabilization. The only thing I would change about it is that the mounting block can only be rotated to set positions....and I would like to have infinite degrees of rotation to get just the right angle.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from May gives you 2 stops When a tripod is cannot be used, in the mono pod is inconvenient due to the necessity of quick response mobility this pod is an excellent addition. Works great with long lenses and heavy camera set up. While waiting for a shot you can balance the rig on top of your shoulder with very little strain for hours. Using it to brace on your belly works better than the shoulder stock application and when used with a long lens can give you up to 2 stops in stability, if not more compared to hand holding. I would also suggest using the Camdapter Arca-type quick release plate in conjunction with their Camdapter Hand Strap System for greater security and stability. This is a strap that goes on the outside of right-hand side of the camera, around the hand. It gives great security, but takes time to get used to controlling the camera top wheel adjustment controls.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not what I expected. After purchasing the Nikon 200-500mm zoom lens, I decided I needed a chest pod of some type to be used in close quarters or in areas where tripods were not permitted; having owned other Novoflex products and being impressed with their engineering and precision of their system, I went for their chest pod. To my disappointment, the unit did not feel of behaved like their other products. The use of plastic parts instead of their usual machined components made the whole system feel unstable and insecure. The Nikon 200-500mm lens turned out to be more than it could handle making it cumbersome to use. Some improvement with the handling was observed with shorter focal length lenses like the 70-200 f/2.8 zoom, but that was not what I was looking for. The chest pod was returned to B&H for credit three days later.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light weight, convenient, effective I bought this for my husband, as he has developed a tremor and has difficulty holding his camera still enough to get a good quality picture. We were going on a cruise and what a pain to haul a tripod every where we might go. This light weight chest tripod solved the issue. Easy to carry and effective. So, if your one of the 100 or so people who asked us about it while we were traveling, it is a great investment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Equipment for Active Photography I call this my body pod. When shooting football from the sidelines at night, I am unable to have any other pod on the sidelines because of danger or regulations. This not only provides the advantages of a tripod or unipod, but it also distributes the weight of a heavy lense to my upper stomach area making the equipment seem much lighter. It is totally adjustable; can be used in different ways; and the shoulder strap works great without pressuring my neck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best camara accessory I have purchased! As I have what is known as an exclusive tremor - I needed some support to help rid me of the often Soft shot. There are lots of shoulder supports available that cost three times what this item does, and probably not as good. construction is rock solid; and adjust nicely. this is a great product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Novoflex's portable pod is perfect for Macro photography! This chestpod has made photographing arthropods so much easier for me! Usually, nature won't lend you a hand and give you the perfect platform for propping ones self up for a photo shoot at any given time. This chest pod can be propped against pretty much anything, and it is incredibly lightweight and portable. My only guff with is is the base on which the camera is screwed on, but that's no issue that an additional ball-head cannot fix. Excellent work Novoflex, and thanks to BH Photo for providing (I seriously could not find this chest pod anywhere else)!
