Ilford Antistaticum reviews

Antistaticum Anti-Static Cloth - 13 x 13" is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 71.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ilford Anti-static: The ONLY Choice I used the Ilford Antistaticum anti-static cloth to remove dust particles from photographs prior to mounting and framing. I also used it to reduce static on plexiglass glazing. It works like magic: it picks up fine dust and dirt and reduces the annoying static cling of plastic surfaces--you know, when you clean with a normal rag, a surface looks clean and then the next minute, it pulls new dust toward itself. The Ilford cloth stops this process, so you just have to clean surfaces once. It's also very soft and does not leave scratches like paper or terry-cloth towels. It's not just the best choice: it's the ONLY choice.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good not Great I got this cloth to clean the glass of my flatbed scanner, while it is anti-static it just don't clean surfaces (such as glass) as well as a standard microfiber cloth. Such cloths as these are probably made for other more specific purposes than I am using it for, but in a practical sense the anti-static feature isn't worth the inability to clean surfaces easily...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Essential for film scanning I have almost NO dust on my negatives between handling them with nitrile gloves and wiping them down with this before scanning them. Definitely an essential that will save you a LOT of time clone stamping out those annoying little dust spots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic! I use this cloth to wipe down all of my negatives before I scan them, and there is hardly ever any static cling left on my images. I've left it sitting out and it doesn't collect dust. No problems here.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Underrated tool I take this cloth and cut it up smaller, use the bits to clean film negatives before enlargement. It's made making pictures so much more efficient!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A product whose usefulness eludes me I am generally a fan of all things Ilford. This orange cloth is where I draw the line. Ilford brags about the wide variety of uses for this cloth such as wiping negatives, and cleaning lenses. Frankly, I would strongly advise that you do neither of those two things with this cloth. Perhaps there is a creative movement afoot that values orange fibers all over an image. I haven't caught this fad yet. Wiping a negative with this cloth does indeed remove the dust - and replaces it with orange lint which in turn gets snagged and tangled in the sprocket holes (35mm film) and shows up all over your scans or prints. So that's one touted use that doesn't quite pan out... How's about wiping lenses? Seems like it should work, right? Not so much. The chemical treatment in the cloth leaves an oily smear all over the surface of the lens which is quite a pain to remove - requiring lens cleaning solution and multiple tissues. About the only thing I've found it to be good for is wiping down camera and lens bodies, which it does well, but why on earth anyone would want to pay this kind of price for what you could do with a $2 microfiber cloth is beyond me. Add to this the insult of the instructions - Do not wash the cloth, presumably because the anti-static treatment will wash out. This means that the first time you get the thing a little dusty, it's ruined. Frankly I don't understand what other people see in this product. Can they not see the lint it leaves everywhere on negatives? Can they not see the waxy film it leaves on optics? Am I REALLY the only one who notices this?
