Ilford Delta 400 overview

  • 1Description

Ilford's Delta 400 Professional is a high-speed black and white negative film featuring core-shell crystal technology in order to produce high sharpness with a fine, uniform grain structure. It has a nominal sensitivity of ISO 400/27° when developed in standard black and white chemistry, making it well-suited to handheld photography and working in difficult lighting conditions. This versatile film also features a broad tonal range and a wide exposure latitude, which is capable of being rated between EI 200 to EI 3200 and being pushed or pulled during development in order to maintain consistent contrast.

This item is one 100'-long roll of standard-perforation 35mm film designed for bulk loading applications.

Ilford Delta 400 reviews

Delta 400 Professional Black and White Negative Film (35mm Roll Film, 100' Roll) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great all around B&W film I use this film for Street Photography:, I find it gives me a great tonal range and tight grain for a 400 film (I use at 640).. This film scans well, and dries FLAT after 1 minute in Photo Flo 1:200. You can't go wrong with Ilford Delta Pro 400. (or DP 100)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Film This is a great film. Wonderful contrast, very fine grain. I've pushed this to 1600 and been very satisfied with the results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply the best. I love rolling my own film, I like to force myself to use a lot of film in order to not miss photos, so I roll it and develop it to keep costs low. And I have tried almost every bulk roll film that is available, and certainly all of the pricier brands. And Delta 400 is the best. This and Pan F 50 for higher quality, grain free, 'wide open in sunlight' photography. Delta 400 dries totally flat, I love TriX, but it always has a curl and Delta 400 definitely has a less noticeable grain. TriX and Tmax both look great, they have nice high contrasts, but Delta is much cleaner and if you're scanning it's easy to make it look more like Trix in post, but it's impossible to make Trix look more like Delta. It also pushes and pulls well. I do semi-stand developing, and so I will change the ISO setting mid-roll and still get very useable results from D400 wether it's at 50 or 1000+. Hp5 is a great alternative for some savings, but if you can afford the difference I don't think there is anything better than D400, especially if you want to get a nice clean look to the photo.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from the best BW film This is the best BW film i ever used. The results in the dark room using multigrade ilford paper are amazing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of my favorites This film is one of my favorites. When I use it with Ilford DD-X the grain and tonality of the film is very pleasing to me. The same can be said for Delta 100 Pro as well as Kodak TMax. The film grain technologies are similar as I understand it. I much prefer the Delta (and TMax) films over the HP5, FP4, and Tri-X. The grain and contrast is much too strong for my tastes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Gift! I actually bought this product as a gift for my boyfriend. He has ordered this product before and said that of all the film he has tried, this works the best! I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who is in the market for some good bulk film.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the best bulk films I have found this one if the better bulk films I have tried. It doesn't meat blackbird film but it's as close as I could find in bulk to it. Great results!!
