Very impressed with this ball head. Very light, easy to add tension for finding the target with the small adjustment lever and then locks down solid with a small twist of the handle with NO creep even with my Sony 200-600 zoom! I added the Novoflex Q Mount X for an absolutely no twist arca Swiss computable mount. Novoflex products are "German engineered" and made in their factory in Germany and the quality and precision to detail is unsurpassed by any competitor, Worth the $$ !

I never intended to use this ball head in a typical manner. I bought it specifically to go on to a small Star-Tracker to be used for astro-photography and I needed more range of motion than I was able to get from a traditional ball head. The flexibility and the versatility of the Novoflex Magic Ball 50 gave me exactly what I was looking for. Because of its unique design, it allows me to shoot from the horizon to directly above me and in any direction. The one drawback that it has (and the reason that I gave it 4 Stars and not 5 Stars is that it did not come with an Arca-Swiss mount, and I had to buy one separately. This was not a big deal, (Obviously it was not a deal-breaker.) but it is something to be aware of and to factor into your decision.

I asked on a RE page on FB if anyone had experience using the MagicBall. I was told that a gear head would be what is needed for RE photography. Does anyone use it for RE work?
It all depends on how precise you wish to be with your RE photography. If just a then/now, you can shoot with this marvelous head in roughly the same spot of the original photography. Being honest, you could just handhold the camera for causal RE photography.

Yes, the Novoflex Magic Ball 50 with Socket Head accepts the Really Right Stuff B2-LR-II Lever-Release Clamp (60mm). You will need this bushing adapter to connect one to the other though. https://bit.ly/487EyPx

I heard that it's hard to detach camera from it. Is it true?
Untrue. I have a D750 and its a piece of cake to put it on and take it off. The trick is to leave your camera offset from the final position you want to set it too. Tighten down the knob until you can't turn it anymore, then physically twist the camera the last 45 to the final position. This makes it extra tight. To remove, just reverse the order. Very very simple. This is an awesome ball head. Don't give it a second thought, you will not be disappointed.

This ball head looks like it can go easily in landscape position, what about portrait position?
Basic answer is that I could discard all my other tripods and keep this one. It's THAT good in any position even with a heavy camera and I use D4s and D3s bodies. Camera position is very fast and simple in every dimension.
